About this resource
Try a short community helpers set before you build a whole unit. This free sampler has eight community helpers, each drawn for this file (no clip art): a firefighter, a police officer, a mail carrier, a doctor, a teacher, a bus driver, a farmer and a dentist. The children match them to their jobs, glue them in the right boxes, read about them in a mini-book they cut and staple, and draw one of their own.
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 11 pages
- A Start Here page for the teacher, with a "which page, when" table
- A matching page: 6 helpers on the left, 6 jobs on the right, draw a line
- A "Who Helps Us?" glue-in mat with 8 boxes
- 16 sort cards (two of each of the 8 helpers) to cut and glue on the mat, or to play pairs with
- 12 helper cue cards to cut: 8 helpers with their jobs and 4 blank cards to draw your own
- A mini-book of 8 panels: a cover, 6 helpers, and a thank-you page. Cut, put in order, staple
- A draw-and-write page: a big box to draw a helper and two writing lines
- An answer key and a "More community helpers" page
Cutting Is Easy
All three cutting pages (36 pieces in all) are laid out edge to edge, so every cut is one straight line. The pieces are big enough for small hands.
Made For The Student
Every student page has a "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, large rounded type and room to glue, draw or write. The teacher notes are on separate pages.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a print-and-go PDF. It works offline, needs no account and prints the same everywhere. The lines are for a pencil. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a test. What counts as done is for you and your team. It has no data sheet, so you record the work the way your team already does.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers, paraprofessionals and PreK to 2nd grade teachers who want a short, picture-led community helpers activity for a circle time, a center or independent work.
