Tick what your data shows. Type your numbers. Copy the present levels.
Pick an area and tick the strengths, data and input you have. The paragraph builds as you go, with a blank for every date, source and count so the goal can be written from it. Tap a highlighted blank to type.

Tap the words of any sentence to edit it, remove it, or add your own sentence after it.
Tick a strength or a skill and its sentence appears here. Under each area, a checklist shows what a complete present levels has and what is still missing.
This is a drafting aid. Your IEP team and your district's form decide what goes in the IEP.
Next: turn these needs into goals and probes Opens the Probe Builder with one line for each skill you ticked. You get a fillable packet of probe forms, data sheets and graphs.See a finished example
Sam is an invented first grader. Every name, date and number below is made up.
Before
Sam is below grade level in reading and struggles with phonics. Sam's mother is concerned.
After, built here
Sam reads animal picture books reliably, and reads most willingly when choosing the book, as seen on May 2. On May 2, on the district phonics screener, Sam gave the sound for 21 of 26 letters correctly. Sounds in error were short e, short i, x, q and y. On May 6, on a CVC word probe, Sam read 12 of 20 CVC words correctly. Most errors involved the vowel. On May 1, by phone call, Sam's mother shared that she wants Sam to read to a younger sister, and said that at home Sam asks for the same three books every night. In class, Sam is expected to read a first-grade decodable text in guided reading. Right now Sam can read 12 of 20 CVC words. Without support, Sam guesses from the first letter and stops after the first page. With a finger-point routine and a short-vowel card, Sam read 16 of 20 on May 8. Based on this data, Sam needs to read CVC words with short vowels in order to take part in guided reading.
What a strong present levels has
The IEP must include a statement of the child's present levels of academic achievement and functional performance
, including how the disability affects involvement and progress in the general education curriculum (34 CFR 300.320). Guidance such as the PROGRESS Center and Understood commonly recommends these parts, and the checklist under each area tracks them:
- Strengths first, with where they were seen.
- Current data with a date and a source, so the goal has a baseline.
- Family and student input, in their words.
- The effect on learning in class, or on taking part in activities for a preschooler.
- The need that the goal will be written from.
Your state and district may ask for more. Their form and rules come first.
Questions
Does AI write the paragraph?
No. Every sentence is a fixed frame we wrote, based on our Present Levels Writing Kit. The page fills in only what you type. Anything you leave blank stays in [brackets] for you and the IEP team.
Why do the sentences ask for a date and a measure?
Present levels are the baseline that the annual goal and the progress reports are measured against. "Reads below grade level" gives nothing to measure against. "On May 2, on a first-grade passage, read 22 words correct per minute" does.
Where does what I type go?
Nothing about your student is sent to us. Your work stays in this browser tab and is cleared when you close the tab. To keep it, use Save draft: the file goes to your own downloads, and Open draft brings it back. The draft holds everything you typed, so on a shared computer delete it from Downloads when you're done. The first time you copy, download or print, we ask for your email, and that's the only thing sent to us. Use a first name or initials rather than a full name.
A sentence doesn't fit my student. Can I change it?
Yes. Tap the words of any sentence to edit it, remove it, or add a sentence of your own right after it. "Add your own sentence" under each area adds one at the end. An edited sentence can go back to the frame at any time.
Does it know my district's benchmarks or rules?
No, and it doesn't guess. Benchmarks, expectations and timelines are blanks you fill from your district's own guidance.
How do I get it into my IEP program?
Most IEP programs have one box per area. Use "Copy this area" beside each heading and paste it into that box. "Download" gives you a file that opens in Word or Google Docs, and "Print" can save a PDF.
