February Book Companion Bundle

About this resource

Four book companions for preschool special education circle time for February, in one bundle: The Biggest Valentine Ever, a Friendship week, Snowmen All Year, and a Winter Animals week. Every week is the same easy routine: read the book at circle time each day, then pull one simple activity after the read-aloud. Every student page has a "My name" line and one short instruction with a picture, so a paraprofessional can run the room from it too.

The Four Book Companions

1. The Biggest Valentine Ever Book Companion (Steven Kroll, week 1): sort valentine things from not-valentine things, count the hearts, letter V, get a valentine ready to mail, and build a big heart mailbox. Core word: "big."

2. Friendship Book Companion (week 2): pairs with any friendship or valentine story of your choice; sort friend things from not, count the hearts, letter H, take turns and share a toy, and build a heart buddy and its little friend. Core word: "little."

3. Snowmen All Year Book Companion (Caralyn Buehner, week 3): sort winter things from summer things, count the snowflakes, letter L, choose clothes for the weather, and decorate a four seasons tree. Core word: "more."

4. Winter Animals Book Companion (week 4): pairs with a hedgehog-and-farm-animals winter read-aloud of your choice; sort farm animals from woodland animals, count the gloves, letter F, hang up the winter clothes, and dress a fox in warm winter clothes. Core word: "finished."

WHAT IS INCLUDED - 4 print book companion PDFs, 228 pages (57 in each), each used on its own

Each book companion has the same parts:

• a Start Here week plan, a page naming the read-aloud with an original circle-time chant, and 9 circle-time vocabulary cards to cut out
• 9 smartboard slides for whole-group circle time on a projector or interactive board (PDF pages you show full screen)
• Day 1 sort, Day 2 count, Day 3 letter, and writing, each at 3 levels (a circle, a square and a triangle mark the levels instead of numbers)
• Day 4 life-skill sequencing page: 4 real steps plus 1 picture that does not belong
• Day 5 book craft: a coloring-and-cutting page and a glue page
• 2 fine motor pages (a tracing path and cutting strips) and 4 core-word pages
• a "Who Did What This Week" data page, a family letter, a credits page
• 19 ink-saver pages at the back, outline versions of the picture pages for a photocopier

Every cutting page carries 5 or more pieces, lined up edge to edge so each cut is one straight line. Pre-cut them yourself for students who are not cutting independently yet.

Read-Alouds

The Biggest Valentine Ever and Snowmen All Year Book Companions name their own read-aloud on the book page; the Friendship and Winter Animals Book Companions pair with any story of your choice on the same theme. Nothing from any book is reproduced in these files, and you need your own copy of the book. Not affiliated with any author or publisher.

How The Bundle Works

Each file is downloaded and used on its own, one week at a time, in February order (week 1 to week 4) or in any order you like. Bought as a bundle, the four book companions are 35% off the four separate listings.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

Print-and-go book companions (not fillable, and not Google Slides or PowerPoint). They are not a claim about any student's age, diagnosis, or rate of progress.
