About this resource
Out sick, or out for a meeting? Fill in the class pages once, write the day on the plan, and leave a report for the sub to complete. This free editable substitute plans template is a fillable PDF: type into the boxes or print it and write by hand.
WHAT IS INCLUDED - 10 pages
- Class Info and Routines - teacher, room, grade, who to ask, where to find things, and eight routines (arrival, attendance, getting attention, bathroom and water, the hall, finished early, lunch and recess, dismissal), each with a blank line
- Safety and Emergency Lines - phone numbers and names to write in, a four-row table for your school's own drill steps, and where the school's emergency folder is kept. Blanks only
- Day-by-Period Plan - eight timed blocks, each with time, class or subject, what to do, materials and where, and notes, plus "if there is extra time" and "please leave for me"
- Support Schedule and Notes on Students - a five-row table for who comes and goes, and a six-row table of what helps each student, in your words
- End-of-Day Report - a row for each of the eight blocks, attendance counts, who helped, who needed a reminder, and a note for you
- One worked example day - an invented teacher and class, with the minutes added up and checked two ways, then a small practice table
- How to Use the Free Sub Plans and a What's Next page
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF, not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file: you type into the boxes, you do not edit the layout. It is not your school's emergency plan and it does not tell anyone what to do in a drill. The safety page has blank lines for what your school's own plan says. Health and medical details are not part of it: those go on your district's own forms.
