About this resource
Four book companions for preschool special education circle time in November, in one bundle. Every week pairs with one read-aloud: Thanksgiving Is for Giving Thanks, This Is the Turkey, Turkey Trouble, and Mooseltoe. Every week is the same easy routine: read the book at circle time each day, then pull one simple activity after the read-aloud. Every student page has one short instruction with a picture, so a paraprofessional can run the room from it too.
The Four Book Companions
1. Thanksgiving Is for Giving Thanks Book Companion (Margaret Sutherland): family, food and being thankful. Core word "open," letter Ff, a life skill about welcoming family at the door, and a thankful-turkey craft.
2. This Is the Turkey Book Companion (Abby Levine): the food and the table. Core word "close," letter Pp, a set-the-table life skill, and a dinner-plate craft.
3. Turkey Trouble Book Companion (Wendi Silvano): a turkey and farm animals. Core word "help," letter Tt, a get-dressed life skill, and a disguise-a-turkey craft.
4. Mooseltoe Book Companion (Margie Palatini): a moose decorating for the winter holidays. Core word "go," letter Ss, a get-the-tree-ready life skill, and a moose-with-an-antler-tree craft.
WHAT IS INCLUDED - 4 book companion PDFs, 228 pages (57 in each), print PDFs
Each book companion has the same parts:
- a Start Here week plan, a page naming the read-aloud with an original circle-time chant, and 9 circle-time vocabulary cards to cut out
- 9 smartboard slides for whole-group circle time on a projector or interactive board
- Day 1 sort, Day 2 count, Day 3 letter, and writing, each at 3 levels (a circle, a square and a triangle mark the levels instead of numbers)
- Day 4 life-skill sequencing page (5 picture pieces: 4 real steps plus 1 that does not belong)
- Day 5 book craft: a coloring-and-cutting page and a glue page
- 2 fine motor pages (tracing paths and cutting strips) and 4 core-word pages
- a "Who Did What This Week" data page, a family letter, a credits page
- ink-saver twins of 19 picture-based student pages, for a photocopier
Every cutting page carries 5 or more pieces, lined up edge to edge so each cut is one straight line. Buy the whole month at 35% off the four separate listings -- each file is downloaded and used on its own, one week at a time.
Read-Alouds
Each book companion names its own read-aloud on the book page. Nothing from any book is reproduced in these files, and you need your own copy of the book. Not affiliated with any author or publisher.
Who This Is For
Teachers starting a self-contained preschool or early childhood special education classroom, PreK through 2nd grade, who want circle time ready to pull and go, one book and one simple activity a day.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Print-and-go book companions. They are not a claim about any student's age, diagnosis, or rate of progress.
