September Book Companion Bundle

About this resource

Five book companions for preschool special education circle time, one bundle. September's whole month for back to school, plus an alphabet week: Old Black Fly, Wemberly Worried, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, a School Tools week, and an Alphabet Theme Week. Each is a complete book companion built around one read-aloud you already have or can borrow (Alphabet pairs with any ABC book). Read the same book every day, and pull one simple activity after it each day: sort, count, find the letter, put a life skill in order, then build a craft from the story.

The Five Book Companions

• Week 1, Old Black Fly Book Companion (Jim Aylesworth): sort bug or not, count the bees, letter F, wash your hands before snack, build an alphabet ladybug with letter spots A to F. Core word: "stop."
• Week 2, Wemberly Worried Book Companion (Kevin Henkes): sort happy face or sad face, count the balloons, letter H, get ready for school, build a My Feelings Face and glue it in the classroom. Core word: "on."
• Week 3, We're Going on a Bear Hunt Book Companion (Michael Rosen): sort wear outside or not, count the boots, letter B, get ready to go outside, put a bear in its cave with a tree, river, mud, snow and boots on the path. Core word: "off."
• Week 4, School Tools Book Companion: pairs with your favorite back-to-school read-aloud; sort school tool or not, count the pencils, letter P, pack your backpack for school, build a packed backpack with a name tag. Core word: "out."
• Alphabet Theme Week Book Companion: pairs with your favorite ABC read-aloud; sort at three levels, count and glue the number, find the pictures that start like the letter, a getting-ready-for-bed life skill, and a letter-tree craft where children color a palm tree and glue six letter blocks climbing up it.

Cutting Built For Small Hands

Cutting pages carry 5 or more pieces, lined up edge to edge so each cut is one straight line. Pre-cut them yourself for students who are not cutting independently yet.

Any teacher starting or running a self-contained preschool or early childhood special education classroom, PreK through 2nd grade, who wants circle time ready to pull and go: one book, one theme, a different simple activity every day.

How The Bundle Works

Each file is downloaded and used on its own, one week at a time, in September order (week 1 to week 4, plus the Alphabet week whenever you like) or in any order you choose. Bought as a bundle, the five book companions are 35% off the five separate listings.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

Print-and-go PDFs (not fillable, and not Google Slides or PowerPoint; the smartboard slides are PDF pages you show full screen). Each book companion pairs with a read-aloud you provide; you need your own copy of the book, and nothing from any story is reproduced here. Not affiliated with any author or publisher.
