About this resource

Six reference and categorization IEP goals — common abbreviations, transition words by category, alphabetical order, dictionary guide words, category exclusion, and category naming — each with six probe forms and a graph scaled to the probe.

Six skills, one per file: common abbreviations (write the abbreviation or the full word it stands for), transition words by category (choose the transition word that links two sentences), alphabetical order (put a short word list in order, or find where a word belongs), dictionary guide words (decide which word would appear on a dictionary page given its guide words), category exclusion (find the one word that does not belong in a set), and category naming (name the category a set of words belongs to). Every probe untimed, working at the word-relationship level rather than passage comprehension.

What Every File Contains

What This Is, And What It Is Not

Fillable PDFs. Goal pages, the goal box on every probe form, and data logs are type-in fields: click, type, Save As once per student. The probe forms are meant to be printed: one copy per student per week, the student writes on the form, and that same sheet is the one you score. Works offline with no account or subscription; nothing calculates percents or draws the graph for you.

Not a norm-referenced assessment. No benchmark scores, no "typical" rates; the criteria in the sample goals are in brackets because your team sets them from the baseline and the student's IEP. Every probe is untimed on purpose and the goal pages say so, so the condition stays the same all year.

Who This Is For

Second through sixth grade special education teachers and case managers writing study-skills or vocabulary goals, intervention teachers, and the paraprofessionals who give the weekly probe.
