About this resource

Eight winter weeks for preschool special education circle time, in one bundle. Six pair with a read-aloud by name: How to Catch a Snowman, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow, Snowmen at Night, Tacky the Penguin, Gingerbread Baby and Twas the Night Before Christmas. Two are theme weeks that go with any picture book you already have on the topic: Hibernation and Nocturnal Animals. Every week is the same easy routine: read the book at circle time each day, then pull one simple activity after the read-aloud. Every student page has one short instruction with a picture, so a paraprofessional can run the room from it too.

The Eight Weeks

1. How to Catch a Snowman Book Companion: a melt-or-not sort, a count of snowflakes, a trap sequence, and a snowman to cut and build. 58 pages.

2. There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow Book Companion: an animal-or-not sort, a count of snowflakes, and an old lady to cut out and dress for winter. 58 pages.

3. Hibernation Theme Week: a sleeps-in-winter or awake-in-winter sort, a count of bears, a get-ready-for-a-nap sequence, and a bear to cut out and glue in its den. 58 pages.

4. Nocturnal Animals Theme Week: a night-animal or day-animal sort, a count of stars, a get-ready-for-bed sequence, and an owl to cut out and glue on its branch. 58 pages.

5. Snowmen at Night Book Companion: a night-or-day sort, a count of stars, a moon letter page, and a snowman to cut out and build. 58 pages.

6. Tacky the Penguin Book Companion: a can-it-fly sort, a count of penguins, and a penguin on ice to cut out and glue. 58 pages.

7. Gingerbread Baby Book Companion: an animal-or-sweet-treat sort, a count of cookies, and a gingerbread house and cookie to cut out and glue. 58 pages.

8. Twas the Night Before Christmas Book Companion: an animal-or-thing sort, a count of gifts, and a fireplace and mouse to cut out and glue. 58 pages.

WHAT IS INCLUDED - 8 print PDFs, 464 pages (58 in each)

Each file has the same parts:

Every cutting page carries 5 or more pieces, lined up edge to edge so each cut is one straight line. Buy the winter set at 35% off the eight separate listings -- each file is downloaded and used on its own, one week at a time.

Read-Alouds

The six book companions name their read-aloud on the book page. The Hibernation and Nocturnal Animals files go with any picture book you choose on that topic. Nothing from any book is reproduced in these files, and you need your own copy of any book. Not affiliated with any author or publisher.

Who This Is For

Teachers starting a self-contained preschool or early childhood special education classroom, PreK through 2nd grade, who want winter circle time ready to pull and go, one book and one simple activity a day.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

Print-and-go book companions and theme weeks. They are not a claim about any student's age, diagnosis, or rate of progress.
