About this resource
A 120 chart for kindergarten, first and second grade, filled and blank, in one file: a filled 1-120 chart to read, a blank 1-120 chart for the child to fill in, and charts with some of the numbers missing. Then small pieces of the chart to fill in, skip counting strips, pattern hunts where you count by 2s, 5s and 10s and color, mystery numbers, and cut and glue. Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (36 pages: 20 student pages, 16 for you)
- The filled 1-120 chart, ten across and twelve down, with the tens shaded down the last column (page 6)
- A blank 1-120 chart: 120 empty boxes (page 7)
- 3 partly filled charts at three levels: 20, 36 and 60 missing numbers (116 boxes in all, pages 8-10)
- Look: how to read the chart (one box right is one more, one box down is ten more) (1 page)
- Chart Pieces: 12 small windows of the chart with numbers missing, 18 boxes on the first page and 30 on the second (2 pages)
- Skip Counting: 12 strips of 10 boxes, counting by 2s, 5s and 10s, forward and back, with 54 empty boxes (2 pages)
- Pattern Hunt: count by 2s, by 5s and by 10s, say each number and color it (3 pages, 120 boxes each; 60, 24 and 12 boxes get colored)
- Next Door: 8 plus-shaped groups with 16 empty boxes, and More and Less: 8 numbers with 1 less, 1 more, 10 less and 10 more to write (32 boxes) (2 pages)
- Mystery Numbers: 12 mystery numbers, each with 3 or 4 clues, on 2 pages. Every one has exactly one answer on the chart
- Cut and Glue: six pieces a page in a 3 by 2 block, three straight cuts; one more / one less on cards, six numbers glued in order from smallest to biggest, and ten more / ten less on cards (18 pieces, 3 pages)
- 3 answer keys, a tracker (18 rows, 419 items), a class grid, a team note, a home page with a small chart to fill in, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (17 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, rounded boxes for a child's handwriting, and plenty of room. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages. No clip art: the only pictures are the charts.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (a filled chart to look at, a few missing numbers, counting by 2s, 5s and 10s). Two dots: building (more missing numbers, the whole chart blank, cut and glue in order). Three dots: ready for more (the most boxes missing, counting back, four clues). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Number Is Computed
Every number in every chart, every key row and every cut piece is read from its place in the chart. There is no second, hand-typed key. Where an answer sits (which boxes are blank, which piece goes on which card) is placed by a seeded shuffle that rejects any order a child could guess. Each mystery number is checked by a program over the numbers 1 to 120: the clues leave exactly one number, and every clue is needed.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every chart box, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader. The Pattern Hunt pages ask for a crayon or pencil, so they are made to print; the cut pieces are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten, first and second grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and families who want the same method at home, with the tracking and home pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed practice set built around the 120 chart, with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full number sense curriculum, and not a claim about any student's grade level or rate of progress. It covers the numbers 1 to 120; there is no place value work, no addition or subtraction beyond one and ten more or less, and no word problems.
