About this resource

3 letter blends are the seven word beginnings scr, shr, spl, spr, squ, str and thr (scrap, shrimp, splash, spring, squid, string, throb). This pack measures them every week against an IEP goal you write. Four timed word-reading forms with 21 real words each, a scoring sheet for every form, and an IEP data sheet with a graph and a timed record, ready for Monday.

WHAT IS INCLUDED - 19 pages: four timed forms (A, B, C, D) of 21 words each (84 different words), a student teaching page on the seven blends, two scoring sheets (two forms per page), a goal page with a sample goal, a blank for your state standard and a blank for your district's goal text, a teacher notes page, a binder cover and divider tabs, a filled-in example, and a family update page

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF. The goal page, data sheet, caseload page, family update page and the scoring sheets are type-in fields: open the file in a PDF reader, click a line or a cell, type, and Save As once per student. The probe forms print: the student reads from paper.

It is a timed probe. The forms are built for a 1-minute reading, and your team confirms the time and writes it on the goal page. It is not a norm-referenced assessment and it carries no benchmark score or expected rate. The criteria in the sample goal are in brackets because your team sets them from the baseline and the student's IEP. Your district's own rules for goals and scoring go on the blank lines provided. It is not a Google Slides, Docs or PowerPoint file.

How To Use It For Progress Monitoring

Give Forms A, B and C on three different days for a baseline (the middle score is the baseline), write the goal from the frame, then give one form a week in rotation. Score it the same day, plot the point, and look at the last three points.

Who This Is For

First, second and third grade special education teachers and case managers writing phonics and decoding goals, intervention teachers, and the paraprofessionals who give the weekly probe.
