About this resource
Two speech sounds start to finish, free: the goal, the probe that measures it, and the graph the decision is read from. The /f/ sound and the /sh/ sound. Print and go.
Both probes are untimed and ten items long, so a score of 8 means the same thing every week, and no student is scored on speed.
WHAT IS INCLUDED - 10 pages, 2 sounds
For Each Sound
- A goal page: what the probe measures, a sample goal written in the probe's own words (invented, every bracket edited by your team), the six-part goal frame, a baseline table for three probes and the median, benchmark rows, the administration and scoring directions, and lines for this student's own scoring rules
- Probe Form A: ten real words containing the target sound, printed large, with the goal on the sheet the person giving the probe is holding
- A data log and graph: twelve rows, a y-axis already scaled 0 to 10, and the aim line drawn first
The Two Sounds
- /f/ — ten real words drawn from a word bank covering different word positions
- /sh/ — ten real words spelled several ways (sh, ti, ci, ssi), since the probe measures the sound, not the spelling
Plus
- How These Pages Work: the six steps (baseline, write the goal, weekly probe, log and plot, decide from the graph, keep the conditions the same), the weekly routine, and the print plan
What This Is Not
Not a norm-referenced assessment. It carries no benchmark scores, no "typical" rate, and no age or eligibility claim; the criteria in the sample goals are in brackets because your team sets them from the baseline and the student's IEP. It gives no instruction in how to teach or elicit a sound — it is the goal page, the probe, and the log, not a therapy technique. This free version has ONE form per sound; a weekly goal needs forms to rotate, or the student memorizes the page. It is a print PDF, not a Google Form or a spreadsheet, and it does not calculate or draw the graph.
If You Want More
Seven sounds in this line are sold on their own as fillable PDFs: R Sound, S and Z, L Sound and L Blends, K and G, F and V, SH and CH, and TH Sound Articulation Progress Monitoring Probes. Each pack carries more probe forms than this free sample, a caseload summary for every student on that goal, and a worked example. This free pack contains /f/ and /sh/, which now both have their own paid versions; start with this free sample to try the probe routine before you pick the sound your caseload needs. These sounds are also available in the Articulation Progress Monitoring Probes Bundle.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and the case managers and paraprofessionals who help carry articulation goals.
READ THIS BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD: the probe is a printed list of words the student reads aloud. It assumes a student who can read these words. There are no picture cards in this file. If your student does not read, the file still gives you the goal page, the log and the graph, but you will need to decide how you present the words and write that on the directions line so every probe is given the same way.
