About this resource
Looking for a bar graph template your first, second or third graders can actually use? This set has 21 student sheets: blank bar graph templates with a scale of 1, 2 or 5 (vertical and horizontal), plus practice that turns tally marks into bars, questions that read a finished graph, sheets for graphing a survey your class collects, and picture graphs. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, big pictures and labels, and big boxes to write in. Print and go, or type into the PDF.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (35 pages)
- 7 blank bar graph templates: vertical with a scale of 1 (0 to 10), 2 (0 to 20) and 5 (0 to 50), horizontal with the same three scales, and one vertical template with the numbers on the side left blank so students choose their own scale. Each has a graph title box, label boxes and a space to write what the graph shows
- 4 tally-to-bar sheets with invented survey data: the tally marks are drawn for the student, who counts them and colors the bars (favorite pet, favorite snack, favorite sport, how we ride)
- 4 read-the-graph sheets with 20 questions in all: which has the most, which has the fewest, how many, how many more or fewer, how many in all, and adding two bars with an equation to fill in
- 2 make-your-own-survey sheets: ask friends, tally the answers, graph them and write about the graph
- 3 picture graph sheets: make one from tally marks (one box for each tally), read one where each picture stands for 2, and use a picture graph to color a bar graph
- 1 graph words page with the parts of a bar graph labeled and sentence starters to tell about a graph
- 2 answer-key pages for every sheet that has one, a tracker with a roll-up graph, a filled example (an invented student), and a family page with a graph to make at home
- A binder cover with a spine strip, 3 divider tabs, a Start Here page and a What's Next page
Three Levels
A small shape in the top corner of each student sheet tells you the level: a circle (6 sheets) is starting, with a scale of 1 and four bars; a square (7 sheets) is building, with a scale of 2 and up to five bars; a triangle (7 sheets) is ready for more, with a scale of 5, equations and writing.
How It Works
1. Pick a section: blank templates, tally and read, or survey and picture graphs.
2. Print a page and hand it over. One short instruction, one job.
3. Check with the key, write the date and score on the tracker, and color the roll-up bar.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, big print, a border and room to write. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult; the keys, tracker and notes are on separate teacher pages. The survey data on the practice sheets is invented. Every bar on the filled graphs is drawn to its exact number, and every answer in the key is worked out from the same data as the page.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Who This Is For
First, second and third grade teachers, interventionists, special education teachers and families who want a clean bar graph template plus practice that goes from tally marks to bars to reading a graph.
