About this resource
Big and small sorting with three real levels, not one page printed three times. Students cut out real pictures that are printed big or small, then glue each one in its bin. Level 1 has a picture cue in each bin, Level 2 has word-only bins, and Level 3 asks about real-life size: is the real thing bigger or smaller than a ball?
WHAT IS INCLUDED - 23 pages
- Start Here page: what is inside, the three levels, three steps
- Size words page: vocabulary, sentence frames, questions to ask and ways to extend
- Level 1, picture cue: a sort mat with BIG and SMALL bins and a faint picture of the right size in each bin, plus a cut page of 12 pictures (6 big, 6 small)
- Level 2, words only: a sort mat with BIG and SMALL bins and no picture cue, plus a cut page of 12 different pictures (6 big, 6 small)
- Level 3, bigger or smaller than the ball: a sort mat with a printed ball and BIGGER and SMALLER bins, a cut page of 12 pictures (6 bigger, 6 smaller) all printed the same size, and a write page with recording lines
- An ink-saver (black and white) copy of the Level 2 mat and cut page
- Answer key and a blank data sheet
- A filled example data sheet for an invented student (labeled as invented), with its scores on a bar chart
- A progress roll-up page: a blank 12-row chart plus a summary for the team
- A helper card for a paraprofessional, sub or volunteer: how to run it, with blanks for the teacher's own prompts
- A note for home
- A binder set: cover, 5 spine labels and 12 divider tabs (2 of them blank)
Everyday objects, animals and vehicles (cow, bed, house, tractor, horse, bus; apple, ant, marker, key, egg, strawberry on Level 3). Each Level 1 and Level 2 picture appears once big and once small, so the student sorts by size and not by what the picture is. Small pieces are drawn at 43 percent of the big ones. The pieces are 12 squares in a 4 by 3 grid that touch edge to edge, so cutting is straight lines only. All art is real clip art.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a print, cut and glue sorting task box. It is NOT a digital or interactive file. No prices are printed inside the PDF.
Who This Is For
Special education, preschool, kindergarten and early elementary teachers who need independent work for size words and sorting, and the paraprofessionals and subs who run it.
