About this resource
Teaching cell theory and want pages students can actually work on? This is a complete unit for grades 6-8: two short readings, the scientists timeline (Robert Hooke, Anton van Leeuwenhoek, Matthias Schleiden, Theodor Schwann and Rudolf Virchow), the three tenets of cell theory, and practice that goes from filling in and matching to short answers in sentences. Every page has a "My name" line, one short instruction and real room to write. Answer keys cover every item, and a tracker, class grid, team note and family page are included.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (41 pages)
- 24 student pages in 15 kinds of page, each with a name line and one short instruction
- 95 scored items on 17 sheets, every key built from the same lists that draw the page
- 2 readings with 3 multiple-choice questions each and a main-idea box
- 1 vocabulary match: 6 words (cell, organism, unicellular, multicellular, microscope, theory)
- 2 timeline pages: fill in the year and the missing word for 5 scientists, then put 5 events in order
- 1 worked example (which tenet?) with a guided copy to fill in
- 2 tenet pages: fill in the 3 tenets, then match 6 examples to a tenet
- 2 who-is-it pages: match 5 scientists to clues, then name who said 6 statements (written in kid words, not exact quotes)
- 2 true-or-false pages (12 sentences), each with a fix-it box
- 1 drawing page: draw what Hooke saw in the cork
- 2 short-answer pages: 6 questions with ruled writing boxes
- 1 Find the Mistake page (4 sentences from an invented student)
- 2 quizzes (12 items); 1 exit-ticket page (3 tickets); 1 Make Your Own page; 1 self check (8 statements)
- 18 cut-and-paste pieces on 3 sort mats (6 pieces into 3 boxes each: the three tenets; Hooke, Schleiden and Schwann, or Virchow; the 1600s, 1830s or 1850s)
- 4 answer key pages; 1 tracker, 1 class grid, 1 team note, 1 family page
- 1 filled example (an invented student), 1 phrase bank (17 starters in 6 groups)
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page page, a binder cover and a page of divider tabs
Built For The Student Holding The Page
A "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture cue, and a plain double-rule border. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult: the keys and records are on separate teacher pages. Writing boxes hold three or more ruled lines. There is no clip art; the only drawing is the timeline. The file prints clean in black and white.
Invented Examples
The students in the filled example and the mistake page are made up and say so. The "who said it" statements are written in kid words and are not exact quotes.
Type In, Or Print
The name line, every answer box, every check box and every ruled work box are type-in fields in any PDF reader: click one, type, then save. You can also print any page. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A cell theory practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed test, a screener, a clinical tool, or a claim about any student's age or rate of progress. There is no IEP goal language or eligibility wording anywhere in the file, and it does not claim to match any one state's standards: there is a line on the tracker for your own.
