About this resource
Teaching Christmas around the world and need a country unit your students can actually hold and work on? This is a complete set for grades 2 to 5 on Christmas in Australia, built for special-education and general classrooms. Five short readings explain, in plain words, why Christmas falls in summer there, what some families do outside, Carols by Candlelight, pavlova and Christmas bush, and backyard cricket, with the make-believe idea of kangaroos pulling Santa's sleigh named as make-believe. A map page puts Australia in the Southern Hemisphere. Then students sort pictures into summer and winter Christmas, put one Christmas day in order, cut and glue words into sentences, match traditions to what they are, decide what is true, make a Summer Santa from straight-cut shapes, compare two Christmases on a Venn page and write at their own level.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (34 pages)
- 21 student pages, each with a "My name" line and one short instruction; 69 scored items, spread over 15 of those pages, every answer taken from the same lists that print on the page
- 1 map page: Earth cut in half by the equator, a drawn outline of Australia with Sydney, the Pacific and Indian oceans, and 4 fill-in blanks with a word bank
- 1 Words to Know page: match 8 words (summer, winter, hemisphere, barbecue, carols, pavlova, cricket, kangaroo) to their meanings
- 5 short readings of 51 to 56 words with pictures, 2 circle-the-answer questions each (10 in all) and a handwriting-lines box
- 3 picture sorts, 22 picture pieces in all: summer or winter Christmas at a starting level (a faint picture shows where each piece goes), summer or winter at a building level, and three groups at a ready-for-more level
- 1 order page: 5 pictures to cut and glue into a Christmas day, first to last, with a trace word under each box
- 2 cut-and-glue word pages: 4 sentences each with a picture, 5 word pieces each (one spare each)
- 2 cut-and-glue text mats, 6 pieces each: match 6 traditions to what they are, and true or not true
- 1 craft: a Summer Santa from 6 straight-cut shapes, with the finished model beside the pieces
- 1 Venn page (Christmas in Australia, My December, Both), 3 writing pages at three levels (finish the sentences with a word bank, sentence starters, a kangaroo sleigh story with a beginning, middle and end) and 1 self check (6 statements)
- 55 pieces to cut in all, every cutting page with 5 or more, edge to edge so there are only a few straight cuts
- 6 picture word cards, 1 binder cover and spine strip with 6 divider tabs
- 2 answer keys, 1 tracker (15 scored pages), 1 class grid, 1 family page, 1 filled example (an invented student), 1 phrase bank (17 starters in 6 groups)
- Start Here page with a chooser table
How To Use It
Start with the map and Words to Know, read one story a day, then use the sorts, order page, cut-and-glue pages, craft and writing pages in any order that suits your group. Nine pages carry a small shape in the corner (circle, square or triangle) for three levels, so every child gets the same page front and nobody holds an obviously easier paper. The tracker and class grid turn the scores into something you can report; the family page sends three things to talk about home.
Built For The Student Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture cue, three-line handwriting rows, big answer circles and room to draw. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult: the keys and records are on separate teacher pages. Pictures are colorful clip art, a drawn map and craft shapes, with no AI-made images. The file prints clean in black and white.
Say It The Way It Is
The readings say "many" or "some" families because customs differ from home to home, and not every family celebrates Christmas. The pages teach how people in one country celebrate, the seasons and the Southern Hemisphere. The only student in the file is an invented example, and it says so.
Type In, Or Print
The name line, the answer boxes, the answer circles, the handwriting boxes and the check boxes are type-in fields in any PDF reader: click one, type, then save. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file, and it needs no device or internet connection to print and use.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A short, friendly country unit with practice pages and the record-keeping around it. It is not a full social studies curriculum, a timed test or a screener. There is no IEP goal language or eligibility wording anywhere in the file, and no claim of alignment to any standard.
