About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 19 pages, 107 type-in fields
- A safety signs board: three naming slots (I see, Point to, Find the match) and an eight-picture match — with its own 8 cut-apart cards on the same sheet
- A places and restrooms board: two naming slots (Show me, Match it) and a five-picture match — with 5 cut-apart cards
- Both boards twice: a full-color set for a laminated binder and a black-and-white ink-saver set for the photocopier
- 22 cut-apart picture cards in all, counting the color set and the home page once
- A weekly tracker: 7 board jobs down, Monday to Friday across, one letter per cell (no help / pointed once / said the words / not run), a "no help" count per row and a week total
- A binder organizer: a front cover, a spine strip and nine divider tabs (three of them blank)
- A home version: a smaller set of the same naming-and-match cards (9 cards) for the kitchen table, with a seven-day "we did it" row
- A family update with a team hand-off block for the next adult who runs the binder
- A phrase bank: 24 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for running the boards, written starters for the note afterward)
- A filled example — an invented student, one week, every count re-counted from its own row
- An answer key listing every board, the cards it takes and what correct looks like, plus the full word list (classroom set and home set)
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
A symbol- and vocabulary-recognition binder for the pictures a student sees around a building and a community: naming and matching, never a procedure. Most matching binders stop at the board; this one adds the tracker, the family update and the phrase bank behind it, so a season's worth of naming and matching turns into a week of counts a case manager can bring to a meeting. This is a picture-and-word recognition tool, not a safety or traffic-safety training program — nothing on any page tells a student what to do near a real sign, a road or in the community.
The Boards
- Safety signs (page 6 in color, page 7 in ink-saver) — the board stays whole above a cut line; the card band below cuts apart. Three slots for naming, and an eight-picture match: the child matches the identical card onto its picture.
- Places and restrooms (page 9 in color, page 10 in ink-saver) — two slots for naming, and a five-picture match.
The Words
- Safety signs cards (8): stop sign, no entry, no smoking, fire extinguisher, warning sign, children crossing, no pedestrians, traffic light
- Places and restroom cards (5): restroom, wheelchair symbol, recycling symbol, water, throw trash away
- Home page — a smaller subset: 4 safety-sign cards (stop sign, no entry, no smoking, fire extinguisher), all 5 places-and-restroom cards
Every picture was chosen to be named in one word or short phrase by a young child, in color AND in the black-and-white set; a word that failed in either set was left out of both. Two of the strongest candidates were tried and dropped for this product specifically: a hospital pictogram (a clear building-and-cross picture in color, but the ink-saver picture is a medical bag and bench with no building in it, so it does not read the same way in both sets) and a duplicate "no entry"-style circle-and-bar sign (the same picture as the "no entry" card already on this board, with no distinguishing feature). Several other real pictogram signs (passport control, fuel pump, a parking button, a bellhop bell, an ambulance) exist in both sets but are not community or safety signs a PreK-2 classroom binder is built around, so they were left off rather than padding the count. At 13 total words the bank is smaller than this collection's Food binder (26 words) and about the same size as its October binder (18 words): a genuinely narrower theme than a full food or fall vocabulary set, shipped at its honest size. (A thirteenth word, throw trash away, was added Sep 27 2026 so the places-and-restrooms cut-apart group has the 5-piece minimum docs/ops/student-page-standard.md now requires; verified in both art sets the same way as the rest of the bank.)
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the tracker, the organizer, the home page and the family update, or print and use a pen. The board pages print on cardstock or plain paper; the card band cuts off the bottom and the board stays whole. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a test of anything.
It is not a safety or traffic-safety training program. It does not teach a student what to do near a real sign, a road or in the community, and it carries no prompt hierarchy, fading schedule or mastery rule. It does not decide what a count means for a student or when a board is done with. The tracker counts naming and matching, and nothing else.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers and paraprofessionals running symbol-recognition or functional-vocabulary practice with early, pre-reading or low-verbal students, case managers who need that practice to show up as data, and the families who get the home page.
More In The Collection
This is the fourth binder in the Morning Work & Adapted Books Collection; more matching binders (clothing, feelings, farm animals) are being added to the collection regularly, all on the same boards-plus-tracker shape.
