About this resource
Cursive handwriting practice that is ready to print. This is 78 pages for grades 2-4, 58 of them practice sheets: small letters a to z and capital letters A to Z, letter joins, 52 words, 10 sentences, a sentence that uses every letter, short sayings to copy, and a folder kit with a log, a check-off chart and a note for home. Every letter has the same four rows: a model with a green start dot and arrows, a dotted row to trace, a faded row to trace, and a blank row to write alone. Type the name and date, or print the pages and write by hand.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (78 pages, 58 practice sheets)
- 58 student sheets, each with a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a pencil picture, rows to trace and rows to write, and a star to color.
- 2 alphabet charts (small letters and capitals): every letter in its own box with the green start dot and arrows, and a four-card key.
- 13 sheets of small letters and 13 sheets of capital letters, two letters to a page. Each letter has a model row, a dark gray row, a light gray row and a blank row, with 8 small letters or 6 capital letters across each row.
- 8 sheets of letter joins, with 96 letter pairs (bottom joins such as an, in and ta; top joins such as ow, we and br).
- 13 sheets of words, 52 words in all: short words such as cat and sun, longer words such as jump and green, the days of the week and the 12 months.
- 5 sheets of sentences (10 sentences), a page with a sentence that uses every letter of the alphabet, and 2 sheets of short sayings to copy (4 sayings).
- A page that shows the four rows, so a child sees what to do before the first letter.
- A joins key for the adult, a binder cover and spine label, and 7 divider pages with a tab to cut and fold. Each divider has its title in cursive to trace.
- A check-off chart for all 26 letters (traced and wrote alone, small and capital), and a practice log with 16 rows.
- A filled example for an invented student: 10 days, 105 letters checked, 74 on the line. Every total is added from its rows.
- A roll-up by section (small letters, capitals, joins, words, sentences) with a blank table for your own student, a family note with four write-on blocks, a phrase bank of 16 starters in 4 groups, and a quick card for a para or sub.
- Start Here, the terms of use, and a thank-you page with what to try next.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
The student page says what to do in one short sentence: "Trace the letters. Then write your own." The three steps after the model are marked with a circle (dark gray), a square (light gray) and a triangle (blank), so a child can start with the dark gray row and move to the blank row when ready. There is no score, no scissors and no glue on any student page. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult.
About The Letters
The cursive letters in this file are our own: simple single-line letters drawn for this product. They are not copied from any published handwriting program, so they may differ a little from the style your school uses. Show your class's model next to the page. The pencil lifts after k, q, s and z, after every capital letter, and between words; the joins key explains the rest.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date on every student page, the check-off chart, the practice log, the roll-up table, the family note, the binder cover and every notes area are type-in fields in any PDF reader: 463 fields in all. The practice rows are for a pencil. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off so the rows keep their size (the small letters are about 0.3 inch tall). The rows are black or gray, so the pages copy in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Grades 2-4 classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, writing centers, tutors and families who want cursive practice in one folder. Your team decides the order, the pace and what counts as ready.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
This is practice paper: letters, joins, words and sentences to trace and write, with a place to log the work. It is not a handwriting curriculum. It has no lesson scripts, no benchmark or grade-level line, and no age guidance; the pages leave your school's rule for you to write in.
