About this resource
Looking for decimal grid pages your fourth and fifth graders can actually color and fill in? This set has 17 student sheets built around the decimal grid: tenths grids with ten columns and hundredths grids with ten rows and ten columns. Students color the squares for a number, read a grid that is already colored, write the decimal, the fraction and the words, compare two grids, match tenths to hundredths, and go past one whole with more than one grid. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, big grids and big boxes to write in. Print and go: students color with a crayon, and the number boxes can be typed into on screen.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (31 pages)
- 1 reading page: a tenths grid and a hundredths grid read three ways (decimal, fraction, words), then one grid to read
- 3 tenths sheets, 6 problems each: shade tenths from a fraction and write the decimal, read a colored tenths grid and write the fraction and decimal, compare two tenths grids
- 7 hundredths and compare sheets: shade hundredths (6), read hundredths (6), tenths equal hundredths (5), compare two grids (3), compare and write each decimal first (3), read a grid and write it three ways (4), shade from the number words (6)
- 2 decimals-past-one sheets, 4 problems each: read grids such as 1.3 (one whole grid and 30 more squares) and color grids for numbers such as 2.35
- 3 blank grid templates (8 blank tenths grids, 6 blank hundredths grids, one big blank grid) and a words page with 6 sentence frames
- 2 answer-key pages, a tracker with a roll-up graph (12 scored sheets, 59 problems), a filled example (an invented student), a family page, a binder cover with a spine strip, 3 divider tabs, a Start Here page and a What's Next page
Three Levels
A small shape in the top corner of each of 12 student sheets tells you the level: a circle (3 sheets) is starting, with tenths; a square (4 sheets) is building, with hundredths; a triangle (5 sheets) is ready for more, with compare-and-write, three-way writing, shading from words and decimals past one. The reading page, the three blank templates and the words page carry no level shape.
How It Works
1. Pick a section: tenths grids, hundredths and compare, or past one, blank grids and words.
2. Print a page and hand it over. One short instruction, one job. Students color the squares, then write in the boxes.
3. Check with the key, write the date and score on the tracker, and color the roll-up column.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, big print, grids with squares big enough to color, and room to write. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult; the keys, tracker and notes are on separate teacher pages. All numbers on the practice sheets are made up. Every grid is drawn by code and every colored square is counted back out of the drawing and checked against its number, every compare answer is worked out two ways, and every answer in the key comes from the same numbers as its page.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Who This Is For
Fourth and fifth grade teachers, interventionists, special education teachers and families who want decimal grid practice from coloring tenths to comparing hundredths and reading decimals past one.
