About this resource
Looking for a decimal place value chart your fourth and fifth graders can actually fill in? This set has 18 student sheets: labeled charts to tenths, hundredths and thousandths with every place in its own color, one chart where students write the place names themselves, and practice that puts digits in their places, reads a chart, breaks a number into parts, writes numbers in words, finds the value of a digit, and compares and orders decimals. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, big cells and big boxes to write in. Print and go, or type into the PDF.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (32 pages)
- 5 decimal place value chart pages: a labeled chart with a worked example, labeled charts to tenths, to hundredths and to thousandths (8 rows each, with a "My number" box), and one chart where students write the place names and place values themselves
- 3 write-the-number sheets (tenths, hundredths, thousandths), 6 numbers each: students put every digit in its own place
- 1 read-the-chart sheet: 8 filled charts, students write the number
- 1 expanded form sheet: 6 numbers, students write the value of each nonzero digit
- 2 number-word sheets: standard form to words (5 numbers) and words to standard form (7 numbers)
- 2 underlined-digit sheets (16 digits in all): students write the place and the value
- 3 compare and order sheets: compare with a chart (4 pairs), compare without one (8 pairs, with 0.7 and 0.07, 3.2 and 3.20, 0.608 and 0.68), and put 3 sets of 3 numbers in order
- 1 decimal words page: the words to use, an example read aloud, and 4 sentence frames
- 2 answer-key pages, a tracker with a roll-up graph (12 scored sheets, 75 items), a filled example (an invented student), a family page, a binder cover with a spine strip, 3 divider tabs, a Start Here page and a What's Next page
Three Levels
A small shape in the top corner of each student sheet tells you the level: a circle (4 sheets) is starting, with tenths and hundredths; a square (5 sheets) is building; a triangle (7 sheets) is ready for more, with thousandths, zeros inside a number and written work. The labeled chart with an example and the decimal words page carry no level shape.
How It Works
1. Pick a section: place value charts, write, read and expand, or words, value and compare.
2. Print a page and hand it over. One short instruction, one job.
3. Check with the key, write the date and score on the tracker, and color the roll-up column.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, big print, color-coded places that stay the same color on every page, and room to write. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult; the keys, tracker and notes are on separate teacher pages. All numbers on the practice sheets are made up. Every number in a chart is placed digit by digit and checked back, every word form is made by one function and spot-checked, and every answer in the key is worked out from the same numbers as its page.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Who This Is For
Fourth and fifth grade teachers, interventionists, special education teachers and families who want a clean decimal place value chart plus practice from writing digits in places to comparing decimals.
