About this resource
Print-and-go dental health activities for Kindergarten to 2nd grade, for Dental Health Month in February and any other week of the year. Students put six brushing steps in order, read a short story about brushing their teeth, sort foods into healthy for my teeth and not healthy for my teeth, and color a tooth on a brushing chart. Big pictures, short words, and room to circle, write and draw.
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 34 pages
- A "Brush My Teeth" poster with 6 numbered steps (color page and black-and-white ink-saver page)
- 6 brushing step cards to cut, 3 across and 3 down, with 3 blank cards for your own steps (color page and ink-saver page): get my toothbrush, put a little toothpaste on it, brush my teeth, spit in the sink, rinse with water, put my toothbrush away
- An order mat with 6 numbered boxes for the cards
- Number the Steps: 6 pictures out of order, the student writes 1 to 6
- I Brush My Teeth: a story with 8 short panels on 2 pages
- A food sort mat with two sides, Healthy and Not healthy, and 12 card-sized boxes
- 12 food cards to cut, 4 across and 3 down (6 healthy, 6 not healthy), plus a row of 4 blank cards (color page and ink-saver page)
- 16 more blank cards on a page of their own (24 blank food cards in all)
- Healthy for My Teeth? 8 foods on 2 pages: the student circles Healthy or Not healthy
- My Foods for My Teeth: draw or write 3 healthy foods and 3 not healthy foods
- My Brushing Chart, one week: 14 teeth to color (7 days, morning and night)
- My Brushing Chart, four weeks: 28 teeth to color, one a day
- A how-to page and an answer key, with space for your school's own words
- A Brushing Log (18 rows: date, when, steps on my own, notes, initials)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a percent graph
- A filled example: an invented student, one week on the log and three weeks on the roll-up
- A family page with 6 small step cards to cut apart and a note home
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional or another classroom uses the same cards the same way
- A phrase bank: 23 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for the poster, cards and story; written starters for the log, the roll-up and the note home)
- A storage and binder label sheet: 12 labels and a spine strip
- Start Here, a contents page that maps every page, 3 section dividers and a "what's next" back page
The Student Pages
Every student page has a "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, big pictures and big rounded words, and room to circle, color, draw or write. Every picture is drawn for this resource: teeth, toothbrush, toothpaste, sink, cup and twelve foods. The student in the filled example is invented.
The Cards
Step cards and food cards are cut edge to edge, so each cut is one straight line. Use them on the mats, in a small group, as a quick sort at the desk, or hand a student a few at a time. A blank card holds any step or food that is not printed here, and your classroom's own steps and rules come first.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the name lines, the log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank cards, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
It is a poster, cards, a story, worksheets, charts and a tally for a brushing routine and a simple food sort. It is not a health or dental program, it gives no medical or dental advice, and it promises no outcome. Which steps and which foods your class uses, and the number that counts as enough, are blanks for your team and your district's own wording.
Who This Is For
Teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals and school staff who want a concrete, picture-based way to teach a brushing routine and talk about foods in Kindergarten to 2nd grade, and the families who get the home page.
