About this resource
Equivalent fractions worksheets that start from a picture: the same bar or the same circle, cut into a different number of equal parts, with the same amount shaded. Then the numbers come in: shade the same amount, match equal fractions, fill in the missing top or bottom number, decide if Sam is right, and cut and glue. Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, and answer boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (29 pages: 13 student pages, 16 for you)
- 58 different items, every one computed in code: 51 pairs of equal fractions and 7 claims that are not equal, bottom numbers from 2 to 12, no item used twice on the student pages
- Look: a bar pair and a circle pair worked out step by step (1 page)
- Shade It: one picture is shaded, the second is blank; shade the same amount and write the fraction. Bars on Set A, circles on Set B (8 items, 2 pages)
- Match It: six fractions and six lettered answers; write the letter. Set A matches a fraction to its bar, Set B matches a fraction to a fraction (12 items, 2 pages)
- Fill It In: write the missing top or bottom number. Set A shows both bars to count, Set B shows the multiply sign, Set C has no help printed (12 items, 3 pages)
- True or False: Sam says two fractions are equal; circle true or false. Set A shows both as bars, Set B has a "Draw it" space beside every claim (8 claims, 4 true and 4 false, 2 pages)
- Cut and Glue: six pieces a page in a 3 by 2 block, three straight cuts. Fractions glued under bars, bars glued under fractions, and fractions sorted under true or false (18 pieces, 3 pages)
- 3 answer keys, a tracker, a class grid, a team note, a home page with blank bars for the family to draw on, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (17 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture (a pencil, a circle or scissors), big drawn bars and circles, rounded boxes at least half an inch tall, and plenty of room. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages. No clip art: the only pictures are the fraction bars and circles themselves.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (look at the pictures, shade, match a picture, fill in a number with a picture or a multiply sign to help). Two dots: building (match fractions to fractions, find a false claim, glue bars to fractions). Three dots: ready for more (no help printed, going down to fewer parts, sorting true and false). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Item Is Computed
Every bar, every circle, every missing number, every false claim, every cut piece and every row of the three answer keys is read from the same fractions that draw the page. There is no second, hand-typed key. Where an answer sits (the letter in a match, which number is missing, true or false, the piece under a box) is placed by a seeded shuffle that rejects any order a child could guess. Each false claim on True or False has one slip (the same number added to the top and the bottom, or only the bottom number changed), and the key says which.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the printed bars, circles and cut pieces are always printed, and the shading on Shade It is done with a pencil. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Third and fourth grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and families who want the same pictures at home, with the tracking and home pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed practice set for seeing, matching and finding equal fractions, with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full fractions curriculum, and not a claim about any student's grade level or rate of progress. Bottom numbers stop at 12; there are no mixed numbers, no improper fractions, no decimals and no comparing of unlike fractions.
