About this resource
Cut-and-paste and write-in feelings activities for 1st and 2nd grade and special education, built around 4 color zones: blue, green, yellow and red. More feelings words and finer differences than a kindergarten set (frustrated or disappointed? nervous or worried?), short sentences to read, and primary handwriting lines to write on. It works alongside zones-based emotional regulation programs, and the teacher page shows how to use your own school's words and colors with it.
WHAT'S INSIDE (44 pages)
- Feelings sort: cut out 20 feelings faces and glue each one onto a 4-color mat. The feelings: happy, calm, focused, proud, sad, tired, sick, bored, disappointed, worried, nervous, silly, excited, frustrated, confused, embarrassed, jealous, mad, scared, overwhelmed. Every face has its word under it.
- Body clues: 12 short-sentence cards with pictures ("My heart beats fast." "My tummy feels funny." "I want to yell.") to glue onto the 4 colors.
- What happened? 6 sentence cards with pictures ("My tower fell down." "I got a new puppy."). For each one the child glues the matching feeling AND the color. Two pages, each at both levels (4 pages), with extra faces and colors so there is a real choice.
- Sentence frames: "I feel ___ when ___." and "When I am in the ___ zone, I can ___." with cut-and-paste feelings, colors, picture choices and calm-down choices, plus primary write-in lines.
- How big is my feeling? Sort 6 sentence cards onto a 1-2-3 scale (a little, medium, a lot).
- My calm-down plan: the child picks 3 of 10 calm-down choices and glues them onto a plan card to cut out and laminate.
- My week: a Monday to Friday check-in sheet (morning and after lunch) with an "I feel ___." line each day, and a page of 20 color stickers to cut out.
- A Start Here teacher page and an answer key.
- Ink-saver copies of all 20 student pages.
- A "What's next" back page with credits and your license.
Two Levels
Each activity comes in two levels, marked with a small shape so children don't compare:
- Starting (circle): picture-supported. Where the task has an answer, a faint copy of it is printed in its box, so the child matches picture to picture.
- Building (square): empty boxes and more writing: the feeling word, the "when", the calm choice, the child's own body clue and their own calm-down idea, on primary handwriting lines.
Made For 1St And 2Nd Grade Hands
- Pieces sit edge to edge in strips, so every cut is one straight line. Every cutting page has at least 5 pieces.
- Each student page has a name line and a short direction with a picture.
- The feelings faces and the kid figures are drawn in one friendly style, with one picture clue on each face: a flat balloon for disappointed, butterflies for nervous, a question mark for confused, a clock for bored.
- Same colors and faces as our kindergarten version, Feelings Color Zones Cut and Paste Kindergarten, so a mixed-grade group can work side by side.
