About this resource

Picture on the page, two letters missing from the word. The child says the picture, then circles the two

letters that fit, writes them in two big boxes, or, on the Read It pages, reads the word and circles the

picture. Two nasal glued sounds, ng and nk, six pictured words each, and nothing to cut or glue.

No adult text on a child page. Only the 4 Write It pages (2 set pages and 2 Mixed pages) have write boxes:

two per word, about 0.7 in tall, one letter each. The 4 Circle It pages and the 2 Read It pages are

spells (king/kink, ring/rink, wing/wink, sink/sing, tank/tang)

The Three Page Types

1. Circle It: the picture, the word with a gap, three chips. One chip is the correct glued sound; the

second is the OTHER glued sound (on five items that chip happens to spell a different real short word,

e.g. king/kink — the picture, not the chip, tells the child which spelling is right); the third reverses

the two letters, a common beginning-writer slip that is checked to never spell a real word.

2. Write It: the same kind of word with two big boxes, one letter each. On a set page the direction names

the glued sound; on a Mixed page a small ng/nk bank sits above the pictures and nothing is given.

3. Read It: the other way round. The word is printed and the child reads it and circles the picture. The

wrong pictures come from the other glued sound and start with the same letter where possible.

The Two Glued Sounds

ng (ring, wing, tongue, king, swing, string) · nk (skunk, monkey, drink, sink, trunk, tank).

The store's Consonant Digraphs sh ch th wh ng Progress Monitoring Probes is a timed data sheet that groups

ng with four other digraphs; it does not carry nk at all and is not practice paper. This file is pencil

work, isolates ng and nk as a matched pair, and adds a Read It page. Nothing here is cut or glued (except

the optional binder tabs).

Type In, Or Print

The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the team note and the home page are type-in fields in

any PDF reader. The circles and the letters students write are pencil work, and every child page prints

clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.

Who This Is For

Kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and any teacher with a student

who is ready for the two nasal glued sounds. Your district's or program's scope and sequence decides which

sound comes first.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

Glued-sound practice paper with the record-keeping around it. It is not a reading assessment and not a

claim about any student's age or rate of progress. The invented student in the example is labeled as

invented.
