About this resource
Number bonds to 5, on pages a child can pick up and start. Find the missing part in a circle, a bar, a five-frame, a bare equation, or spot a mistake and fix it. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and answer boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (29 pages: 13 student pages, 16 for you)
- Every one of the six ways to make 5 (0 and 5 through 5 and 0), all computed in code — bonds to 5 is a small, fixed skill, and the fact map (page 5) shows exactly where each one is used
- Ways to Make 5: every bond in a row, then one bond shown three ways (circle, bar, five-frame) plus a Your turn row where the child writes a bond and turns it around (1 page)
- Number Bonds Circles: a circle whole over two circle parts, one missing (6 items, 3 pages)
- Number Bonds Bars: a bar whole over two boxed parts, one missing, with a "My work" box on the second page (6 items, 2 pages)
- Five-Frame to 5: a five-frame of drawn pictures, some filled; write how many more make 5, write the whole plus sentence, or draw the rest in by hand (6 items, 3 pages)
- Missing Addend: a bare plus sentence with the unknown on the right or the left, no picture (4 items, 2 pages)
- Fix It: a printed bond that is right on 1 row and one-off on the rest; circle yes or no and write the right partner (4 items, 2 pages)
- A fact map showing all six bonds and every page type each is used on, 2 answer keys (18 rows and 8 rows, across three and two side-by-side tables), a tracker, a class grid, a team note, a home page with a printed five-frame and blank equations for the family to fill in, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (16 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture (a pencil or a circle), rounded boxes at least half an inch tall, and plenty of room. Bars Set B, Missing Addend Sets A and B, and Five-Frame Set C add a "My work" box or a place to draw. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (a five-frame or a filled circle beside the problem). Two dots: building. Three dots: ready for more (no picture support, or an extra step such as writing the plus sentence or showing work). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Bond Is Computed
Every answer, every five-frame count and every row of both answer keys is read from the same pairs that draw the page. There is no second, hand-typed key. Bonds to 5 is a small skill — only six ordered ways to make 5 — so the same bonds come back in more than one format on purpose (a child sees the same fact as a circle, a bar and a five-frame); no printed item repeats on any one page, and the fact map on page 5 shows exactly where each bond is used.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the circles, bars, five-frames and pictures are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and anyone who needs number bonds practice at more than one level in one file, with the tracking and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed number bonds practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's age, grade level or rate of progress. Every bond here sums to 5, so this is not a Number Bonds to 10 or addition-within-20 file.
