About this resource
Partial products multiplication, set up the way it is taught: break the top number into tens and ones, multiply each part, and stack the partial products one under the other before adding. 47 × 6 becomes 42 and 240, and the total is 282. Guide it, stack it, find the mistake, match, cut and glue, and cut and order, in two sizes: two-digit by one-digit and two-digit by two-digit. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (29 pages: 14 student pages, 15 for you)
- 54 different problems, 29 two-digit by one-digit and 25 two-digit by two-digit, totals from 64 to 4465, all computed in code; no problem appears on two pages
- Break It Apart: 47 × 6 and 34 × 26 worked as stacks, then a Your turn stack (1 page)
- Guide It: every multiplication sentence printed (A), only the words ones and tens (B), then four parts for two digits on the bottom (C) (12 problems, 3 pages)
- Stack It: a blank stack, a box for every row, two digits by one digit and two digits by two digits (8 problems, 2 pages)
- Find the Mistake: printed work with exactly one wrong number; circle it and write it right (8 problems, 2 pages)
- Match It: six problems and six lettered sets of partial products; the child writes the letter (12 problems, 2 pages)
- Cut and Glue: six cards a page, 3 by 2, three straight cuts; partial products glued by their problem (12 cards, 2 pages)
- Cut and Order: six cards a page, 3 by 2, three straight cuts; the steps of one problem glued in order (2 problems, 12 steps, 2 pages)
- 2 answer keys (28 rows and 36 rows), a tracker (13 scored pages, 64 items), a class grid, a team note, a home page with blank stacks for the family to fill in, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (17 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture icon (a pencil, a circle or scissors), rounded boxes at least half an inch tall, and plenty of room. The stack boxes are the room to work: one big box for every row a child writes. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (the multiplication sentences are printed, or the matching choices are few). Two dots: building. Three dots: ready for more (a blank stack with four partial products, a mistake to find in four rows, steps in order). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Number Is Computed
Every partial product, total, wrong number and row of both answer keys is read from the same two factors that draw the page, and the code checks that the partial products add to the product. There is no second, hand-typed key. Where an answer sits (the letter in a match, the row with the mistake, the card under a box) is placed by a seeded shuffle that rejects any order a child could guess. Of the 8 mistakes to find, 2 are a tens row with the zero left off, 4 are one group too many or too few, and 2 are an adding slip in the total.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the cut cards are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Fourth grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and anyone who needs partial products practice at more than one level in one file, with the tracking and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed practice set for multiplying with stacked partial products, with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's grade level or rate of progress. It does not use a grid or a picture; the stack is the only layout. Three-digit numbers and division are not in this file.
