About this resource
Teaching photosynthesis and cellular respiration side by side and want pages students can actually write on? This is a complete unit for grades 6-8: two short readings, a side-by-side compare chart, a Venn diagram, both equations (in words and with formulas, plus an atom count), a chloroplast and a mitochondrion to label, and a cycle diagram that shows how the products of each process feed the other. Every page has a "My name" line, one short instruction and real room to write. Answer keys cover every item, and a tracker, class grid, team note and family page are included.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (41 pages)
- 23 student pages in 15 kinds of page, each with a name line and one short instruction
- 117 scored items on 18 sheets, every key built from the same lists that draw the page
- 2 readings with 3 multiple-choice questions each and a main-idea box
- 1 vocabulary match: 6 words (photosynthesis, cellular respiration, chloroplast, mitochondrion, glucose, chlorophyll)
- 1 side-by-side compare chart: 10 boxes (where it happens, what goes in, what comes out, energy, who does it) with a word bank
- 1 Venn diagram with 8 hints to place and room for your own ideas
- 2 equation pages: fill in each equation in words and with formulas, then count the carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms on each side (31 items)
- 2 label pages: a chloroplast and a mitochondrion, 4 labels each, with a plain-words clue for every part
- 1 cycle page: write what each process gives the other on the arrows
- 1 who-does-what page: 6 living things, check photosynthesis, cellular respiration or both
- 2 true-or-false pages (12 sentences), each with a fix-it box
- 2 short-answer pages: 6 questions with ruled writing boxes
- 1 Find the Mistake page (4 sentences from an invented student)
- 2 quizzes (12 items); 1 exit-ticket page (3 tickets); 1 self check (8 statements)
- 18 cut-and-paste pieces on 3 sort mats (6 pieces into 3 boxes each: photosynthesis, cellular respiration or both; chloroplast, mitochondrion or both; the cycle)
- 5 answer key pages; 1 tracker, 1 class grid, 1 team note, 1 family page
- 1 filled example (an invented student), 1 phrase bank (17 starters in 6 groups)
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page page, a binder cover and a page of divider tabs
Built For The Student Holding The Page
A "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture cue, and a plain double-rule border. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult: the keys and records are on separate teacher pages. Writing boxes hold three or more ruled lines. The student pages have no clip art; the pictures are the diagrams. The file prints clean in black and white.
Invented Examples
The student in the filled example and the student on the mistake page are made up and say so.
Type In, Or Print
The name line, every answer box, every check box and every ruled work box are type-in fields in any PDF reader: click one, type, then save. You can also print any page. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A photosynthesis and cellular respiration practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed test, a screener, a clinical tool, or a claim about any student's age or rate of progress. There is no IEP goal language or eligibility wording anywhere in the file, and it does not claim to match any one state's standards: there is a line on the tracker for your own.
