About this resource
Five kinds of student page on possessive 's — the grammar rule that shows who has something or who it belongs to — plus a helper, answer keys, a tracker, a class grid, team notes, a home page and a filled-in example. 31 pages, every one in a rounded font on primary handwriting lines with a "My name" line at the top, so a child can pick it up and write.
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 31 pages, 17 student pages for practice
How To Start
- Quick Start — three steps: read the Helper together (page 6), pick a page type and a set (A, B or C), then check it, date it, record it, and send the home page
- How It Works — what the dots mean (one dot, two dots, three dots, all visible to a child so nobody's paper looks easier), how to read each page type, room to work, printing and type-in fields, and one phrase walked through all three practice-page types
- Rules — the rule that 's shows who owns something or who it belongs to (the dog's bone, Sam's toy), in kid words, with a worked example from each set (A, B, C), how a possessive is built (owner + 's + thing owned), how many times the rule is practiced across every page type, the dog's/dogs trap Sort Possessive or Plural drills, what's deliberately left out, and a blank line for your district's own wording
- Helper — three cards: what is it, what shows it, what does it mean (read aloud with the child before page 1)
Five Practice Pages, Easiest To Hardest
- Add the Apostrophe (pages 7, 8, 9, Set A/B/C) — six sentences per page: the child writes 's on the word to make it possessive; 1 dot
- Choose the Right One (pages 10, 11, 12, Set A/B/C) — six pairs per page: which version has 's? circle it; 2 dots
- Fix the Phrase (pages 13, 14, 15, Set A/B/C) — six sentences per page: add the missing 's; 2 dots
- Sort Possessive or Plural (pages 16, 17, 18, Set A/B/C) — 12 words per page to cut (six possessive, six plural): sort into columns; cut and glue, 5 straight cuts, no gaps; 2 dots
- Write It Right (pages 19, 20, 21, Set A/B/C) — six sentences per page: write it right on primary lines, whole sentence, whole 's; 3 dots
- My Sentences (page 22) — pick a word (dog, friend, teacher), write a sentence with 's, draw it; 3 dots
Tracking And Reporting
- Answer Keys (pages 23, 24) — the answers to every page, generated from the same data as the pages themselves, never hand-typed
- Possessive 's Tracker (page 25) — one row per page type and set, columns for date, how many right (of 6), and notes; a box for "what we are working on this month"
- Class Progress Grid (page 26) — one student per row, one page type per column, numbers rolled up from the tracker so one glance shows who is ready to move on
- Progress Note (page 27) — a coverage table across all six page types (covered since the last note, right with no prompt, still blank), what you saw (observable, with blanks for numbers), next step, summary for the next reader
- Home Page (page 28) — the same 's rule, three steps to practice at home, three cells for the child to write in (their own words, not the page's), days practiced, notes from home
- A filled-in example for an invented second grader (page 29): a complete tracker for Maia, showing her progress from early Add the Apostrophe to Write It Right with notes about what came next
- Phrase Bank (page 30) — starters for notes and next steps, plus questions to ask before the pencil moves, split five ways (progress notes, family notes, next-step notes, talk-first questions, conference and check-in starters)
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a practice worksheet pack. Every student page prints clean in black and white, has room to write on primary handwriting lines, shows the dots so no child's paper looks easier, and carries no scoring, no clinical language and no age claim. Type the child's name at the top, print it, let them write on it in pencil. The pages teach only singular possessive nouns with 's (the dog's bone, Maya's apple, the teacher's desk). Plural possessives, possessive pronouns (his, hers, theirs), and possessive adjectives (my, your, our) are left out on purpose — this pack is only the one rule.
It is NOT a Google Slides file, a Google Doc or a PowerPoint. It does not have a score field or an answer field the child fills in. It is NOT a timed probe or a data collection sheet: it is a practice page meant to be used by a teacher or a paraprofessional who checks the answers and says them aloud so the child hears the right way.
Who This Is For
Elementary teachers in a classroom with children working at different levels on grammar and writing, special education teachers in a resource room or a self-contained class, speech-language pathologists supporting language goals, and any teacher or paraprofessional who works with children still building the grammar rules one at a time.
