About this resource

Is the ball in the box, on it, or next to it? This is a position-word kit for Kindergarten and 1st grade: eight words (in, on, under, above, behind, in front of, next to, between), every single item built around a drawn picture, never a bare sentence. Every page has a big "My name" line and one short instruction with a picture.

EVERYTHING INSIDE (31 pages)

THE SIX PAGE TYPES (dots show the level, never color)

1. Helper (1 dot) — all 8 words, one small picture and a kid-words clue each.

2. Where Is It? (1 dot, 3 pages) — a picture and a sentence with a blank; the child circles the word that is true among three word buttons.

3. Sort by Position (2 dots, 3 pages) — cut six pictures from a 3 by 2 block (three straight cuts) and glue each one under its matching word.

4. Write the Word (2 dots, 3 pages) — a picture and a sentence with a blank; the child writes the position word on the line.

5. Draw It (3 dots, 3 pages) — words only, the REVERSE direction: the child reads a sentence and draws the ball in the right spot on a blank scene.

6. My Turn (3 dots, 1 page) — the child picks a word, writes a sentence with it, and draws the picture.

Items come in three sets (A, B, C) so a child has fresh pictures on a second pass of the same page type.

Built For The Child Holding The Page

A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, large rounded letters, and real room to work: every Draw It box is at least 1.5 inches to draw in, and My Turn gives a full primary-line sentence box under its picture. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult. Cutting is limited to Sort by Position: six pieces a page, touching edge to edge, each wider than 2 inches and taller than 1.

Two Landmarks, Chosen So Every Word Is Honest

A box can be open (so a ball can truly be IN it) or closed (ON, ABOVE, BEHIND, IN FRONT OF, NEXT TO and BETWEEN two of it), and a table has legs and a clear gap underneath, so it is the only landmark used for UNDER. BEHIND and IN FRONT OF always use the closed box, because its tall body can really hide most of a ball — a table's flat top is too thin to hide anything convincingly, and the about page says so.

Type In, Or Print

The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the team note, the home page and the about-page note box are type-in fields in any PDF reader. The words and pictures a student adds are pencil work. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.

Who This Is For

Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and any older student still mixing up a position word. The home page sends the same job to a family; the team note hands off what changed since the last meeting.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

Position-word concept practice with the record-keeping around it. It is not a probe, a goal bank or a score sheet, not a progress-monitoring tool for prepositional phrases in connected speech or text (see this store's prepositional-phrase probe for that job), and not a claim about any student's age or rate of progress. "Below" and "beside" are left out on purpose (too close to "under" and "next to" at this grade band), and left/right direction is not practiced here.
