About this resource

Print-and-go self advocacy activities for grades 6-12. Teens read short, real-life situations (asking a teacher for more time, saying what helps, disagreeing respectfully), sort scenario cards, pick the clearer way to ask, plan who to ask and what to say, and practice with a partner. A poster, an ask plan and a log turn it into something a student uses all semester.

The Student Pages

Every student page has a "My name" line, one short instruction, clear boxes and room to circle, color or write. The situations are the ones teens meet in class, in group work, on tests and in the hallway. The student in the filled example is invented.

The Scenario Cards

Twelve cards, four to ask, four to tell and four to disagree. Use them on the mat, in a small group, as a quick sort at the desk, or hand a student two or three at a time for role-play. A blank card holds any situation that is not printed here, and your school's own rules come first.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF: type into the name lines, the teacher log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank cards, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.

Who This Is For

Special education teachers, case managers, counselors, resource and general education teachers and paraprofessionals who want a concrete, text-based way to practice self advocacy with middle and high school students, and the families who get the home page. For younger students, see the grades 2-5 Self Advocacy Social Story and I Can Ask Cue Cards.
