About this resource
Sequencing stories with pictures, ready to print. This is 47 pages: 12 short picture stories (4 of 3 steps, 4 of 4 steps, 4 of 5 steps), 48 pictures in all, that children put in order, cut and glue, and write about. Type the name and the numbers, or print the pages and write by hand.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (47 pages)
- 12 picture stories with 48 pictures, such as A Seed Grows, Make a Sandwich, A Frog Grows and Build a Sandcastle.
- 32 student pages: a Story Words page, 10 number pages, 6 cut and glue pages, 2 what-happens-next pages, 12 writing pages and a My Own Story page.
- Number the pictures: the pictures are printed out of order with a number box under each one. 3-step stories go two to a page.
- Cut and glue: 48 pieces on 6 pages. The pieces touch edge to edge in two rows, so one cut across and one down each seam does it. Every piece is at least 1.2 inches on each side, and a glue box as big as the piece is above it, labeled First, Next, Then or Last.
- What happens next: 8 stories (the 4- and 5-step ones) show two pictures and three to choose from. Children circle the one that comes next.
- Write a sentence: one page for each story, with 2 writing lines for every picture, 96 lines in all.
- My Own Story: draw four boxes and write a sentence for each.
- A story list with every story's pages, and 3 answer keys: a sample sentence for each of the 48 pictures, and the order for every page.
- A tracker with a row for each of the 12 stories, a roll-up by number of steps, and a filled example for an invented student.
- A team note, a home page for families, a phrase bank of 17 starters in 5 groups, and a binder cover and spine label.
- Start Here, the terms of use, and a thank-you page with what to try next.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
Each student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, and big pictures. The border color and a small shape in the page foot show 3, 4 or 5 steps (a circle, a square or a triangle). Nothing on a student page is written for an adult. The pictures are black-outline line drawings, so every page still reads when copied in black and white.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date on every student page, the number boxes, the sentence lines, the tracker, the roll-up, the team note, the home page and every notes area are type-in fields in any PDF reader: 304 fields in all. You can also print any page. Print at 100 percent with fit-to-page turned off. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, centers, and tutors who want ready picture stories for first, next, then and last. Your team decides which story and how many steps each child works on.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
This is working paper for sequencing practice. The answer keys give sample sentences, and any sentence that says the same thing is right. It has no scores, no benchmarks and no grade-level claims. It is not a reading program.
