About this resource
Finding what makes 20, dressed for spring, on pages a child can pick up and start. A circle, a bar, a
twenty-frame filled with a spring picture, a bare equation, or a right-or-wrong check — the whole is
always printed as 20 and the blank is always one of the two parts, never the total. Every page has a big "My
name" line, one short instruction, and answer boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no
score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (29 pages: 13 student pages, 16 for you)
- 101 items across the twenty-one ways to make 20 (0 and 20 through 20 and 0), every one computed in code; no printed item repeats on any one page
- Ways to Make 20: every one of the twenty-one bonds to 20 in a ladder, then one bond shown three ways (circle, bar, twenty-frame) plus a Your Turn row (1 page)
- Number Bonds Circles: a circle whole over two circle parts, one part missing (21 items, 3 pages)
- Number Bonds Bars: a bar whole over two boxed parts, one part missing (21 items, 2 pages)
- Twenty-Frame to 20: a spring picture (tulip, cherry blossom, lady beetle, blossom or sun) fills some of the twenty cells; the child counts, writes, or draws the rest (21 items, 3 pages)
- Missing Addend: a bare plus sentence, the blank on the right on Set A and on the left on Set B (19 items, 2 pages)
- Fix It: a printed bond that may or may not be true; circle yes or no and write the true partner (19 items, 2 pages — 2 of the 19 rows are right, 17 are off by one)
- A fact map showing every one of the twenty-one bonds and which page carries it, 2 answer keys, a tracker, a class progress grid, a team note, a home page for a family to split a pile of twenty at home, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (16 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture (a pencil or a circle),
rounded boxes at least half an inch tall, and plenty of room. Number Bonds Bars Set B and Twenty-Frame Set C
add a "My work" box or a place to draw. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate
teacher pages.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (the picture support is fullest — a twenty-frame or a filled circle beside the problem).
Two dots: building. Three dots: ready for more (no picture support, or an extra step such as writing the plus
sentence or showing work). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing
papers.
Every Item Is Computed
Every answer, every empty twenty-frame cell and every row of both answer keys is read from the same pair of
numbers that draws the page. There is no second, hand-typed key. A bond is the unordered pair of parts, so
printing 7 and 13 on one page and 13 and 7 on another is still the same bond, and the fact map (page 5) shows
every page that bond appears on.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines and every answer box are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the pictures, circles,
bars and twenty-frames are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a
fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten and first grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and
anyone stocking a March, April or May math center who needs bonds-to-20 practice at more than one level in
one file, with the tracking and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed number-bonds practice set with the record-keeping around it, dressed for spring. It is not a timed
fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's age, grade
level or rate of progress.
