About this resource
A teen-number kit for the jump from single digits to the teens: reading a ten frame past 10,
writing tens and ones, circling, matching, and number-order practice, with the record-keeping a
classroom or small group needs around it.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (29 pages)
- 9 Show the Number items across 2 pages — one full ten frame (the ten) plus a second, partly
filled frame (the ones); write the total
- 9 Tens and Ones items across 2 pages — the same pictured ten frame; write "1 ten and ___ ones
= ___"
- 9 Circle the Ten Frame items across 2 pages — a number and three ten frames, lettered A/B/C;
circle the one that matches (the other two are the immediate neighbors, one dot off)
- 9 pairs on 1 Match the Number page — numbers matched to lettered "1 ten and ___ ones" sentences,
scrambled on purpose so the matching is the whole task
- 9 Tens and Ones Equations across 2 pages — no picture, forward and reverse equations mixed
- 9 How Many More to 20 items across 2 pages — quick number-sense equations
- 9 Before and After items across 2 pages — write the number that comes before and after
- 2 answer keys, generated from the same nine numbers every worksheet uses
- 1 practice tracker (one student, seven formats), 1 progress snapshot (a bar graph rolling the
seven scores into one picture), and 1 class grid (whole class), type-in or print
- 1 family update — a note home with blanks for the week's formats and the district's own wording
- 1 home practice page — a second, self-contained practice set for a family to use together, with
no school materials needed
- 1 filled example — an invented student, every number checked against its own table
- 1 phrase bank — progress-note, family-note, next-step and talk-first starters
- 1 binder cover with a spine label and six divider tabs
- Start Here, a how-it-works page, and a contents page that gives every page number
Every Number, Every Format
Eleven through nineteen each appear exactly once in every one of the seven formats. Every
distractor and every blank is computed from the number itself (the number minus 10, minus or plus
1, or 20 minus the number) — nothing is typed by hand or looked up.
Seven Formats, One Picture At A Time To None
Show the Number and Tens and Ones use the pictured ten frame. Circle the Ten Frame and Match the
Number ask the child to tell close numbers apart or match a number to its meaning. Tens and Ones
Equations, How Many More to 20, and Before and After drop the picture once the number sense is
there.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, the equation blanks, the tracker, the snapshot, the class grid, the
family update and the home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the ten frames are always
printed, never typed. Circle the Ten Frame is answered by hand with a pencil circle, the same as a
printed copy. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and any small group
working on teen numbers, place value, or ten frames below or above grade level.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A teen-number practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a full math curriculum,
not an assessment, and not a claim about any student's age, grade level or rate of progress. The
tracker has a blank line for your own scoring criteria.
