About this resource
Counting, addition and subtraction to 20, every number drawn the same way: on a ten-frame, or on two side by
side once the count passes 10. Count what is filled in, draw a number in, add two frames together, cross out to
subtract, find a missing number, or check an answer that might be wrong. Every page has a big "My name" line, one
short instruction, and answer boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (30 pages: 14 student pages, 16 for you)
- Count and Write: a ten-frame (or two, past 10) already filled in; write how many (12 items, 2 pages)
- Fill the Frame: a number is given; draw pictures in a blank or dashed frame to show it (11 items, 2 pages)
- Add Using Two Frames: each frame holds one addend; count both and write the whole plus sentence — the third
page gives the first addend and the total, and the child draws the second addend in by hand (17 items, 3 pages)
- Subtract by Crossing Out: a filled frame pair, some pictures already crossed out on the first page, drawn on by
the child on the second; count what is left and write the subtraction sentence (11 items, 2 pages)
- Missing Number: a bare plus or minus sentence with the unknown on the left or the right, no frame (11 items, 2
pages)
- Mixed Review: a dense bare-equation page, a frame-supported review mixing addition and subtraction, and an
"Is It Right?" check where the printed answer is right on 2 of 6 rows and the child has to catch the rest (22
items, 3 pages)
- A 0-20 number-line reference page, 2 answer keys (across six side-by-side tables), a tracker, a class grid, a
team note, a home page with a printed ten-frame and blank equations for the family to fill in, a filled example
(an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (16 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine
label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture (a pencil or a crossed-out
circle), rounded answer boxes at least half an inch tall, and plenty of room. Everything for you (directions,
answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (the fullest picture support). Two dots: building. Three dots: ready for more (no frame, or an
extra step such as drawing the second addend or crossing out without a model). The dots are the only level code,
so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Number Is Computed
Every answer and every row of both answer keys is read from the same numbers that draw the page. There is no
second, hand-typed key. A number past 10 is always the same idea: the left frame fills first, the right one
carries the rest, so counting, adding and subtracting all use one picture. No printed item repeats on any one
page.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in
any PDF reader; the pictures and frames are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This
is a fillable PDF, not a slideshow or a word-processor file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and anyone
who needs counting, addition and subtraction practice to 20 at more than one level in one file, with the tracking
and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a
full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's age, grade level or rate of progress.
