About this resource
Addition AND subtraction within 20, dressed for Thanksgiving, on pages a child can pick up and start. Hop on (or back) along a number line, count on or count back, add two drawn groups in ten-frames or cross pictures out, find a missing part, spot a mistake, or cut and glue. Every page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and answer boxes made for a child's handwriting. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (33 pages: 17 student pages, 16 for you)
- 50 different facts from two separate fact pools (30 addition, 20 subtraction), every one computed in code; each fact appears on exactly one student page
- Ways to Add AND Ways to Subtract: one fact shown four ways on each (count on/back, number line, ten-frame, turn it around / think addition), plus a Your turn row (2 pages)
- Number Line Hops: a 0 to 20 number line with a tick and a numeral at every number; two addition pages (hops printed, or the child draws them) and one subtraction page (hops printed going back) (9 problems, 3 pages)
- Count On / Count Back: write each number you say, counting on (addition) or back (subtraction) (7 problems, 2 pages)
- Ten-Frame Add / Take Away: two addition pages with two different drawn Thanksgiving pictures per ten-frame, and one subtraction page where pictures are crossed out and the child writes how many are left (9 problems, 3 pages)
- Missing Part: a bar of two parts and a whole; the subtraction page is still read "think addition," the same strategy named on both Ways pages (7 problems, 3 pages)
- Fix It: one addition page and one subtraction page, a printed answer right on one row and wrong on two; circle yes or no and write the right answer (6 problems, 2 pages)
- Cut and Glue: one addition page and one subtraction page, six pieces each, 3 by 2, three straight cuts (12 pieces, 2 pages)
- A fact map listing every fact in the file (split by operation) and which page it is on, 2 answer keys, a tracker (15 rows, 50 items), a class grid, a team note, a home page with practice for both operations, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (17 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture (a pencil, a book or scissors), rounded boxes at least half an inch tall, and a small chip in the corner that always says Add or Subtract. Take Away and the subtraction Missing Part page add a "My work" box. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (hops are printed, both ten-frame groups are printed, a scaffold under the missing part, a faint answer in the glue box). Two dots: building. Three dots: ready for more (count the hops yourself, cross out and show your work, glue the facts to the answers). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Fact Is Computed, Two Separate Pools
Addition facts (sums 6 to 20, no doubles, no partner of 10) and subtraction facts (minuend 11 to 20, subtrahend 1 to 9) are drawn from two different pools in code. Every answer, every hop, every crossed-out picture, every wrong answer on Fix It and every row of both answer keys is read from those same pairs — there is no second, hand-typed key. No addition page ever prints a minus sign.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the pictures, number lines, ten-frames and cut pieces are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF, not a slideshow or a word-processor file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten and first grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and anyone who wants addition AND subtraction practice, Thanksgiving-themed, at more than one level in one file, with the tracking and family pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed addition and subtraction practice set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's age, grade level or rate of progress.
