About this resource
A child who is just learning to write often has more to say than they can spell, and a blank page or a plain lined page gives them nowhere to start. This is draw-and-write paper for kindergarten through 2nd grade: a picture box to draw in first, then primary lines with a dashed midline and plenty of space between them to write on. Four layouts, so the page can change as the child does, plus the writing log, class grid and family note around it.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (24 pages)
- 13 writing pages for students in 4 layouts, 22 picture boxes and 63 ruled lines in all
- Picture on Top: 4 pages, one big picture box, then three lines
- Side by Side: 3 pages, a picture box beside seven lines (the box is on the right on one page)
- Two Pictures: 3 pages, two frames, each with a picture box and two lines
- Story Strip: 3 pages, First / Next / Last boxes, then six lines
- 9 pages with a sentence starter already printed ("I like", "I see", "First,", "Last," and more); the other 4 are left blank for your own words
- 1 writing log (one row for every writing page), 1 class grid (15 students), 1 filled example (an invented student)
- 1 family note with three ways to help at home, 1 phrase bank of 15 observable-language starters
- 1 binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label to cut out
- Start Here and terms of use
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small pencil icon, a labeled picture box, and lines with real spacing. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult, there is no score, and no student page needs scissors or glue. Every page has a different label ("My Picture", "Draw It", "My Story" and more) so a child can see which page they are on. There are no prompt pictures and no topic lists: the child draws what they choose.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every ruled line, the log, class grid and family note are type-in fields in any PDF reader, so you can type a starter or a word onto a line before you print. The picture boxes are left empty for drawing. Every page prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, writing centers, and tutors who want a draw-then-write page. Your district's own writing expectations decide how many sentences to ask for and when.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
Blank draw-and-write paper with the record-keeping around it. It is not a handwriting program, a timed test, a screener or a clinical tool, and it makes no claim about any student's age or rate of progress. There is no IEP goal language or eligibility wording anywhere in the file.
