About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 19 pages
- 7 cut-apart ring cards, 2 inches square: bathroom, food, water, hurt, tired, break and help — the same seven words the posted AAC Basic Needs and Wants Board uses, punched for a one-inch book ring
- Every card twice: a full-color set for the ring and a black-and-white ink-saver set for a spare ring or a second adult
- A "what to say with each card" reference printed right on the ring sheet, plus a note on using a blank card for any need the seven-card set does not cover
- 12 blank ring cards with a type-in word line, for any need the seven-card set does not cover
- A how-to page: building the ring, why every card stays threaded (unlike a leveled-signal ring, nothing here comes off), showing a word, waiting for a response, adding a missing need, one ring for several adults, what this ring is and is not, sending it home and handing it off
- A Communication Log (18 rows: date, time or setting, word used, independent, help given, initials)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a percent-independent graph
- A filled example — an invented student, one day and three weeks on the roll-up, every percent re-counted from its own row
- A family page with six of the seven cards, a "say it" reference table, and a week of home tries to initial
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional, specials teacher or substitute carries a second ring the same way
- A phrase bank: 24 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for showing a card, written starters for the log, the roll-up and the note home)
- A storage and binder label sheet: 11 labels and a spine strip
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
The posted AAC Basic Needs and Wants Board (a full seven-word board, a four-word quick board, and cut-apart cards) stays where it is posted. This file prints no board at all: the same seven words, cut small, punched near the top edge and threaded onto a one-inch book ring, so the whole small vocabulary travels clipped to a backpack, a belt loop or a lanyard — into the hallway, the cafeteria, specials, a fire-drill line, or any room without a posted board. It is the wearable companion to that board, not a second copy of it: the exact same pictures and words, cut small enough to carry.
THE CARDS (reused verbatim from the posted board, same words and pictures)
1. Bathroom
2. Food
3. Water
4. Hurt
5. Tired
6. Break
7. Help
Every card stays threaded on the ring and is shown the same way, every time — flip to the matching picture, say the word once, and wait.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank cards, or print and use a pen. The card sheet prints on cardstock or plain paper, cuts along dashed lines, and punches near the top edge for a one-inch book ring (sold separately). It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
It is a way for a student to carry the same seven AAC needs words a posted board already uses, so the vocabulary travels from room to room, and for an adult to write down whether a need was selected independently. It is not a speech-generating device, a program, or a finding of any kind, and it promises no outcome. It supplies no prompting method or order to teach the words in.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, paraprofessionals and families who already use (or are about to introduce) the AAC Basic Needs and Wants Board and need the same seven words to travel beyond the board's fixed location — plus the case managers who need that use to show up as data.
More In The Collection
This single sits alongside AAC Basic Needs and Wants Board Editable (the posted board version of the same seven words), Lanyard Cue Cards for Special Education (the same ring mechanic for an interchangeable calm-down choice bank), and Break Request Wearable Ring Cards for Special Education (the same ring mechanic forked onto a leveled break-request-and-pass system); more picture-card sets — schedule cards, routine strips, choice boards — are being added to the collection regularly, all on the same cards-plus-data shape.
