About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 23 pages
- A Daily Break Allowance Board: five break tokens in a TODAY'S BREAKS panel that move, one at a time, into a USED panel as each break is taken — a name and date line included
- Two desk-size boards on one sheet, cut apart, at a lower 3-token allowance, for a folder or a second student
- A Whole-Group Allowance Overview: one row per student, up to ten, on a single page
- 5 numbered break tokens, 2 inches square, sized for velcro dots, drawn as a stop-sign shape
- Every token twice: a full-color set for a laminated board and a black-and-white ink-saver set for the photocopier
- A Request Step reference page: the same break, wait and all-done pictures as the companion Break Cards and Choice Board, shown small to tie the request step to the countdown board
- 9 blank tokens with a write-on line, for any daily allowance other than 3 or 5
- A how-to page: before the first day, the three moves every time, who moves the token, what happens when the allowance runs out, writing down what changes, sending it home
- A Break Countdown Log (16 rows: date, time, token moved, breaks left, duration in minutes, returned to task Y/N, initials)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a percent-of-days-the-allowance-lasted-all-day graph
- A filled example — an invented student, one day on the log and three weeks on the roll-up, every percent re-counted from its own row
- A family page with a 3-token kitchen-size version of the same board
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional or another classroom runs the same board the same way
- A phrase bank: 24 lines in 6 groups (spoken lines for the board, written starters for the log, the roll-up and the note home)
- A storage and binder label sheet: 11 labels and a spine strip
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
A depleting daily break allowance, not a choice board and not a fill-up reward system. Most break systems on the shelf stop at a strip of removable tokens; this one adds the log, the weekly roll-up and the phrase bank behind it, so a day the allowance lasted turns into a line on a page a case manager can bring to a meeting.
The Tokens
- 5 numbered break tokens (1 through 5), a stop-sign shape so it reads as a different object from this collection's reward-token star — a physical piece placed and removed by hand, not a symbol standing for an idea
- The number on a token is a literal count printed on a physical game piece, the same way a die or a poker chip carries a number, so it carries no naming requirement the way a picture-word card does
Tokens are 2 inches square; the board slots are the same size, so a token from either the color or the ink-saver set fits either printed board without re-cutting.
The Boards
- Daily Break Allowance Board — a TODAY'S BREAKS panel and a USED panel, five tokens, with a name line.
- Two desk-size boards — the same mechanic at a 3-token allowance, cut apart, for a lower daily count or a second setting.
- Whole-Group Allowance Overview — one row per student, up to ten, each with their own five-token track.
The boards carry no pictures, so they print the same in color or black and white.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the board's name line, the log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank tokens, or print and use a pen. The token pages print on cardstock or plain paper and cut along dashed lines. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
It is a way to show a daily break allowance being spent, one token at a time, with the count written down. It is not a behavior plan, a point system with rules of its own, or a program of any kind, and it promises no outcome. It carries no prompt hierarchy, fading schedule or mastery rule; how it is used with a student, and for how long, is what your team's plan says. The goal line and the criterion field are blanks for your district's own wording and your team's own number. The log counts two things: how many breaks were used, and whether the allowance lasted the whole day.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers and paraprofessionals who run a daily break allowance rather than an unlimited or choice-based break system, case managers who need that allowance to show up as data, and the families who get the home page sent home.
More In The Collection
This is a companion to Break Cards and Choice Board, not a duplicate of it: that file is the ASK (a request-a-break card system with its own choice bank), this file is the COUNT (a depleting daily allowance). More picture-card sets — schedule cards, routine strips, choice boards, calm-down cards — are being added to the Visual Supports Collection regularly, all on the same cards-plus-data shape.
