About this resource

A breathing-technique card system that comes with its own data. Most breathing posters for a calm-down corner stop at a single picture; this one breaks six named techniques into their own two-step, numbered cut-apart cards, with a practice log, a weekly roll-up and a phrase bank behind them, so a technique practiced at the corner turns into a line on a page a case manager can bring to a meeting.

The Six Techniques

No picture can show the ACTION of breathing in or out, only objects and states — so every card is named for the concrete thing it shows, and the reference table on page 7 carries the breathing instruction for that step. Every picture was rendered and read at print size in color AND in the black-and-white set before it went on a card. Cards are 2 inches square.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

It is a fillable PDF: type into the practice log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank cards, or print and use a pen. The strip and card pages print on cardstock or plain paper; the cards cut along dashed lines. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.

It is a posted, numbered picture sequence for six breathing techniques, and a place to record which one was practiced and whether it needed help. It is not a therapy technique, a behavior plan, or a program of any kind, and it claims no technique calms, regulates, or works for every student. It carries no prompt hierarchy, fading schedule or mastery rule; which technique works best for a particular student is something you find out by offering choices, not a rule this file sets. The goal line and the criterion field are blanks for your district's own wording and your team's own number. The log counts two things: which technique was practiced, and whether it needed help.

Who This Is For

Special education teachers and paraprofessionals running a calm-down corner, case managers who need that use to show up as data, and the families who get the home page sent home.
