About this resource
Looking for a Christmas Around the World passport that your students can pick up and work on? This is a staple-together passport booklet for grades 1 to 3: a passport cover to color, a "My Passport" page, a world map to label, and a stamp page for five countries (Mexico, France, Germany, Italy and Australia). Children cut out six postage-stamp pieces, glue one into each country page, tick the customs they learned about and write about each place.
Each country page has a glue box with a faint twin of the stamp inside it, so every child can see which stamp goes where. Beside it are the country's name and how to say Merry Christmas there, then four things "some people" do (for example, put shoes by the fireplace in France or eat pavlova in Australia) with a tick box for each, and a fifth blank row for a fact from your own book or lesson. Under that, children finish "In Mexico, people ..." on handwriting lines, write where they found out (a book, a video, a talk), and draw. The stamps are plain postage-stamp pictures in color blocks (a poinsettia, a boot, an Advent wreath, a stocking, a sun and waves). They are not flags.
WHAT'S INSIDE (20 pages, 14 for students)
- Start Here: what is inside, how to make the booklet, the map answers, the three levels and a five-day plan
- 1 stamp sheet to cut: 6 stamps (5 country stamps and 1 blank "my home" stamp to draw on), 2.5 by 4.3 inches each, 3 across and 2 down, edge to edge so every cut is a straight line
- 1 passport cover to color, with a globe
- 1 My Passport page: draw yourself, glue your home stamp, and tick each country when you get its stamp
- 1 world map to label: Mexico and Australia are numbered on the map, and France, Germany and Italy are numbered on a Europe zoom, with a word box and 5 lines to write the names
- 5 country pages (Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Australia): a glue box, Merry Christmas in that country's language, 4 tick-box customs and 1 blank row each (20 customs in all), 3 writing lines, an "I found out from" line and a drawing box
- 1 Merry Christmas page: trace and write 5 greetings (Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noël, Frohe Weihnachten, Buon Natale, Merry Christmas)
- 3 My favorite country pages on three levels: trace and draw (circle), finish three sentences from a word box (square), write freely (triangle)
- 1 certificate to color and sign, with 5 stars to color
- For adults: a class tracker, a filled example (the Mexico page, filled in by an invented student named Sam), a family letter and a credits page that lists the five Christmas in ... units
Built For The Student Holding The Page
A "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, big boxes and handwriting lines on every student page. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult: the directions, map answers and records are on separate pages. The single cutting page has 6 big pieces, edge to edge, with a dashed cut line. You will need pencils, crayons, scissors and glue sticks.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A printable PDF (print and cut). It is not Google Slides, Docs or PowerPoint, and it has no fillable fields. It describes customs, not beliefs: the tick boxes say what "some people" do, customs differ from family to family, and not every family celebrates Christmas. It does not score anything. The passport works on its own with any book or lesson you have, and it also pairs with the store's Christmas in Mexico, France, Germany, Italy and Australia units. The stamps, passport and pictures are our own drawings, and the map outlines come from Natural Earth (public domain).
Who This Is For
Grades 1 to 3, self-contained and resource classrooms, and anyone teaching how Christmas is celebrated around the world who wants one booklet that comes together with a stapler.
