About this resource
Teaching ck is easy to say and hard to practice: back, deck, kick, lock and duck all end in ck, and children still write bak, dek and duc. This is a complete kit of ck worksheets for kindergarten through 2nd grade: 18 words, six ways to practice them, and the tracker, class grid, team note and family page around it, so nothing has to be written from scratch. Children circle the ck word, sort words by vowel, choose between three spellings, match words to sentences, fill in a sentence, and trace and write it.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (33 pages)
- 1 Words with ck page: all 18 words, grouped by -ack, -eck, -ick, -ock and -uck, and a three-step way to read them
- 18 student practice pages in 6 formats, three sets of 6 words each (Set A, B, C), easiest to hardest: Circle the ck Word, Sort by Vowel, c, k or ck?, Match the Sentence, Fill the Sentence, Trace and Write
- 18 words: 3 with a, 3 with e, 4 with i, 4 with o, 4 with u before the ck. Every set holds all five vowels
- 18 sentences, each used in four formats, so a child meets each word in a real sentence
- 1 answer key, generated from the same data as every student page
- 1 tracker (18 words, 6 formats, dated), 1 class grid (15 students), 1 team note and 1 home page with a ck hunt
- 1 filled example (an invented student), 1 phrase bank of 15 observable-language starters
- 1 binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label to cut out
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page page, and terms of use
The Six Formats
1. Circle the ck Word: three words in a row, circle the one that ends in ck.
2. Sort by Vowel: six words in a bank, five vowel rows, write each word on its row.
3. c, k or ck?: three spellings of the word, circle the one that is right (bac, bak, back).
4. Match the Sentence: six words and seven sentences (one is extra), draw a line from each word to its sentence.
5. Fill the Sentence: eight words for six blanks, write the word that fits. Two words are left over.
6. Trace and Write: each sentence in outline letters on a ruled line, with a line below for the child's own writing.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture icon, large rounded letters, and real room to write on every page, with handwriting lines on the Trace and Write pages. Dots, not words, show which pages are the first steps. There are no pictures to guess from, so children read every word. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult, and no student page needs scissors or glue.
Every Word And Number Is Generated, Never Typed
Every word, wrong choice, sentence, answer position and count on every page, key, tracker and example is computed from the same word data at build time, so the pages and the key cannot drift apart. The right answer's position is shuffled so no pattern gives it away, and no wrong choice is another word from the bank.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader. What a child writes, circles or draws is pencil work. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, intervention groups and tutors who teach words that end in ck. Your district's own phonics scope and sequence decides when to teach it.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A set of ck worksheets with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed test, a screener, a clinical tool, or a claim about any student's age or rate of progress. There is no IEP goal language or eligibility wording anywhere in the file.
