About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 18 pages, 311 type-in fields
- 24 classroom job cards in full color, each with a picture, the job name, one plain sentence a child can read, and a name line you can type on. They sit edge to edge, 12 to a page, so a page is two cuts down and three across
- Our Class Jobs: a picture chart of 12 jobs with a "Who" line for each, for the wall
- A weekly job chart: 10 jobs by 5 days, every job name and every name a type-in box, with a blank line for your class's own rotation rule
- A job application a child fills in: "My name," the job I want, why, five "I am ready" boxes to color, a drawing box and "You are hired"
- A job interview and reflection page: three questions a friend asks, then three faces to circle and "Next time I will"
- A rotation tracker with a roll-up: 12 student rows by 6 weeks, jobs tried, days done, days due, and class totals
- My Jobs at Home: six picture ideas, six rows of seven stars to color, and a grown-up signature line
- Two Great Job certificates on one page (Great Job Helper, Job Star)
- A family update with blanks in your own words
- A phrase bank of 32 starters in 8 groups: job cards, thank-yous, interviews, reflections, notes home, certificates, chart reminders and class meeting
- A filled example: five invented students, four weeks, every total re-added from its own row
- A binder cover, a spine label and 8 cut-apart tabs
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
A class jobs file for the whole routine, not just the picture cards. Most job packs stop at the cards and a chart. This one also gives the child a page to ask for the job and a page to think back on it, gives you a tracker that totals the weeks, and gives families a way to see what the job was.
The Job Cards
- 24 jobs: Line Leader, Door Holder, Paper Passer, Calendar Helper, Recycling Helper, Plant Helper, Messenger, Light Helper, Lunch Helper, Board Cleaner, Pencil Helper, Librarian, Weather Watcher, Pet Helper, Table Washer, Supply Helper, Computer Helper, Time Keeper, Greeter, Trash Helper, Mailbox Helper, Chair Helper, Floor Sweeper, Music Helper
- Type a child's name on the line, or leave it blank and write by hand. Print on cardstock; the pieces are big (about 2.4 by 2.1 inches) and meet edge to edge, so there are no tiny scraps to cut
- The weekly chart has blank job lines for any job the 24 do not cover
The Pages A Child Fills In
- The application, interview, reflection and home pages have a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and room to write on ruled lines. There is no scoring and no grade on any of them
- Pictures are Google Noto Emoji (Apache License 2.0), credited on the last page
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the cards, charts, tracker and notes, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file, and you cannot drag the boxes around or restyle the pages.
It is the working paper for a classroom jobs routine. It does not say which jobs a class must have, how long a child keeps a job, or who may do which job. That is your classroom's routine, and the rotation rule gets a blank line on the weekly chart. The tracker counts days; it does not score a child. The example students are invented and say so on the page.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten through 5th grade classroom teachers, self-contained classroom teachers, paraprofessionals and substitutes who run daily or weekly student jobs, and the families who get the note home.
