About this resource
A group of birds, a group of cows, a group of wolves — eight scenes, each three of the same animal, so a child can point and name the collective noun instead of reading a word list. Every card asks one thing: what do we call a group of this animal?
WHAT IS INCLUDED — 19 pages, 275 type-in fields
Picture Cards
- 8 collective-noun scenes in full color, each a cut-apart card of about 1.75 x 3.1 inches, with the word printed underneath: flock (bird), herd (cow), pack (wolf), swarm (honeybee), pod (dolphin), litter (dog), pride (lion), team (horse). Every scene always shows exactly three of the animal — a fixed count for the picture, not a rule for how big a real flock, herd or pack is
- The same 8 scenes again as an ink-saver set in pure black outlines, for the photocopier
- A note printed on both card pages naming the 4 animals a young child may name another way (pack/wolf, “dog”; swarm/honeybee, “bee”; pod/dolphin, “fish”; litter/dog, “puppy”) — including the wolf/dog cross-card mix-up, since this deck also has its own dog picture — so the scoring rule is decided once, before the first probe, plus a plain note that each word pictures one common example, not the only animal the word describes
Probe And Track
- 2 quick picture probe forms (A, B), 4 scenes each, untimed — Forms A and B together are the whole 8-word bank with no overlap
- Full-Deck Probe — all 8 collective nouns on one sheet, one row each, with a verbatim column for what was actually said
- Data Log — 17 rows: date, form, correct, out of, percent, notes
- Percent Graph — 14 probes across, 0–100 percent grid, a field for the team's own criterion
- Caseload Summary — 16 rows: student, baseline, current, trend, decision
Share And Write
- Practice at Home — a family update built from 6 of the 8 scenes used in session, a weekly practice table, and lines for collective nouns a family heard outside of practice time
- Phrase Bank — 21 observable-language starters across 5 groups (accuracy, what was said, carryover, the log and graph, and the caseload page)
- Filled Example — an invented student, eight probes, every percent re-counted from its own row
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, graph, caseload page, family page, and probe-form headers, or print and use a pen. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document, and it is not a norm-referenced or standardized test.
It carries no elicitation, cueing or modeling script. It does not decide what counts as a correct answer, a criterion, or a typical rate for collective-noun naming — every one of those is this clinician's own call, written once and reused every session. Pictures replace the word list a child cannot yet read; they do not replace the clinician's scoring rule.
Who This Is For
Speech-language pathologists and special education teams with students on a vocabulary, categorization, or figurative/group-language goal, and the families who get the practice page sent home. Pairs naturally with the Jobs and Occupations and Quantity Concepts decks for a caseload building general vocabulary.
