About this resource

Looking for decodable passages with comprehension questions your K-2 group can read on their own? This set has 20 one-page passages, one phonics pattern each: 10 short-vowel (CVC) passages, 5 beginning-blend passages (fr, dr, sk, sp, br) and 5 digraph passages (sh, ch, th, wh, ck). Each page has a picture, a words-to-read box, a 5-sentence passage with the pattern words highlighted, three "read it" circles and 3 questions with answer lines. Every word is a word of that passage's pattern or one of 9 listed sight words, and every answer is in the passage, word for word. Print and go, or type into the PDF.

EVERYTHING INSIDE (38 pages)

How It Works

1. Pick a pattern and read the words-to-read box together.

2. The child reads the passage, colors a circle, and reads again, three times in all.

3. The child answers the three questions, finding each answer in the passage.

4. Check with the key; record it on the tracker, and the roll-up shows how it is going by pattern.

Built For The Child Holding The Page

A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a small picture, big print, a scalloped border and room to write. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult: the key, tracker and notes are on separate teacher pages. A small circle, square or triangle at the foot of the page marks short vowels, blends or digraphs.

What This Is, And What It Is Not
