About this resource

A child who can read single CVC words is not yet reading sentences. This is the bridge: sixteen short

sentences, each built only from CVC words and this store's Fry-100 sight words, each one paired with

the single picture it actually describes — then the same sixteen sentences run through four different

ways to practice them.

EVERYTHING INSIDE (31 pages)

Four Formats, One Sentence Bank

1. Read and Match — sentences in their own order on the left, pictures relabeled A-D and shuffled on

the right; draw a line from the number to the letter.

2. Cut and Paste — the same sentences with an empty glue box beside each one, and a shuffled strip of

picture cards below to cut out and paste in.

3. Illustrate It — no picture cue at all. The child reads the sentence, draws their own picture of it,

then copies the sentence on the line.

4. Decoding Check — the sentence with its own (unscrambled) picture: underline the word that names the

picture, then circle that same word among two printed choices, only one of which is really in the

sentence.

Why There Is No Picture Multiple-Choice

A picture in this pack names a noun (cat, cup, sun) — not the whole action a sentence describes, so a

set of "wrong" pictures would be hard to prove safely wrong at scale. Instead, every sentence is

checked in code to name exactly one of the ten target words, so the Read and Match and Cut and Paste

pages always have exactly one correct picture, never a defensible near-miss. The one place this pack

offers a second option is the Decoding Check, and there both options are printed WORDS: the correct

answer is simply the word that is verifiably present in the sentence's own text, checked in code.

Where The Sentences And Pictures Come From

The ten pictures are the same audited set this store's CVC Words Handwriting Practice pack uses (a-2,

e-2, i-1, o-2, u-3 short vowels) — every word has a real, unambiguous picture confirmed in BOTH the

Noto and Fluent picture sets, so a word without one was left out rather than force a wrong answer key.

Every sentence is checked at build time: every word in it must be a CVC word from any short vowel, a

word already on this store's Fry-100 sight-word list, or "a"/"the" — a sentence that fails the check

does not ship, and a sentence containing a second target word does not ship either, so its one true

picture is never in doubt.

Type In, Or Print

The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid and the family page are type-in fields in any PDF

reader. The activity pages themselves are always pencil, scissors and glue work. This is a fillable

PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.

Who This Is For

Self-contained, resource and early-intervention rooms, and any K-1 classroom with students who can

read single CVC words and are moving into short sentences. Pairs with this store's CVC Words

Handwriting Practice, Words and Sentences, the writing side of the same picture set.

What This Is, And What It Is Not

A print-and-practice pack with the record-keeping around it. It is not a reading curriculum, not a

phonics program, and not a claim about any student's age or rate of progress.
