About this resource
EVERYTHING INSIDE — 23 pages, 211 type-in fields
- A fixed four-step calm-down sequence: Notice, Breathe, Strategy, Check In — the same four steps every time, not a bank to choose from
- 3 ready-made reminder strips, each printed as two identical 2.75-inch wide strips so one sheet gives a location copy and a spare: Morning Calm-Down Reminder (Notice, Breathe, Strategy, Check In), During-Work Calm-Down Reminder (identical sequence), and Transition Calm-Down Reminder (identical sequence)
- Every reminder twice: a full-color strip and a black-and-white ink-saver strip for a photocopier or a second adult
- An "at a glance" picture diagram of the step order printed above the cut pieces on every reminder page, so the sequence reads before any cutting happens
- A blank strip template: two identical 2.75-inch strips, four type-in lines each, for any four-step sequence the three ready-made strips do not cover
- A how-to page: cutting the sheet, taping it where a big feeling might happen, showing a step, what to do when a step needs help, picking which reminder goes where, one strip for several adults, and replacing a worn strip
- A Calm-Down Log (16 rows: date, time, location, step shown, completed without help Y/N, initials)
- A weekly roll-up (8 weeks) with a percent-completed-without-help graph
- A filled example — an invented student, one school day across two reminders and three weeks on the roll-up, every percent re-counted from its own row
- A family page with a four-step reference strip, the how-to line, and a week of home tries to initial
- A hand-off page so a paraprofessional, specials teacher or substitute uses the same calm-down sequence the same way
- A phrase bank: 24 lines in 6 groups (what to say when pointing to a step, written starters for the log, the roll-up and the note home)
- A storage and binder label sheet: 10 labels and a spine strip
- Start Here, a contents page with page thumbnails, and a "what's next" back page
This one is a size variant of the larger wall-mounted calm-down board and poster the collection already carries: the four-step sequence is the same, re-laid from the ground up into a strip narrow enough (2.75 inches) to tape where a student might go in a big-feeling moment — the morning meeting corner, an independent-work desk, a transition station, or any other location. The same four steps repeat every time, not a bank of interchangeable choices; all three ready-made strips carry the identical sequence so a student learns one procedure, not three different ones.
The Four Steps
- Step 1: Notice — something feels big; stop and pay attention before doing anything else
- Step 2: Breathe — slow the breathing down
- Step 3: Strategy — pick one choice from a toolbox of calming options (decided by the team separately)
- Step 4: Check In — tell an adult how it went, or decide: ready to go back?
Every word and picture is imported from the same four-step bank the collection's Calm-Down Steps Sequence Cue Cards and Poster already uses; no new picture enters the collection with this product. The strips are printed narrow (2.75 inches) to fit the edge of a desk or a doorway instead of a wall, but the four steps, the log, and the roll-up work the same way.
Why Multiple Reminders At Multiple Locations
Each school location where a big feeling might show up gets the same four-step sequence printed and taped there: the morning meeting area, the independent-work station, the transition space, any other spot. A student learns one sequence rather than three different procedures; an adult pointing to any reminder uses the same four steps the same way. Two copies of each strip (two lanes on one sheet) means one to tape and one spare for a second location or a photocopier.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
It is a fillable PDF: type into the log, the roll-up, the family page, the hand-off page and the blank strip, or print and use a pen. The strip sheets print on cardstock or plain paper and cut along dashed lines. It works offline with no account or subscription. It is NOT an editable online slideshow or word-processor document.
It is a way to tape a reminder of a four-step calm-down sequence where a student is already sitting or playing or working, and for an adult to write down whether a step was completed without help. It is not a behavior plan, a therapy strategy, a crisis protocol or a program of any kind, and it promises no outcome. It carries no prompting method or order to teach the steps in; how the strip is used with a student, and for how long, is what your team's plan says. The goal line and the criterion field are blanks for your district's own wording and your team's own number.
Who This Is For
Special education teachers, paraprofessionals and related-service providers who want a visual calm-down reminder taping to a location where a student goes when a big feeling shows up, plus the case managers who need that use to show up as data, and the families who get the home page sent home.
More In The Collection
This single sits alongside Calm-Down Steps Sequence Cue Cards and Poster, Calm-Down Choice Cards for Special Education, and Visual Supports Starter Set FREE in the Visual Supports Collection; more picture-card sets — schedule cards, routine strips, choice boards — are being added to the collection regularly, all on the same cards-plus-data shape.
