About this resource
A child who can pick the right digraph out of three choices is not automatically a child who can
spell it with no choices printed. This gives both jobs their own page, for twelve skills — six
digraphs (sh, ch, wh, ck, ng, th) and six blends (bl, cr, dr, fr, sp, nd) — plus a Mixed Digraphs
and a Mixed Blends review: say the picture, circle the two letters you hear, then write the two
letters that finish the word.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (41 pages)
The Two Formats, Every Skill
1. Circle It (recognition) — a picture and three letter-cluster choices underneath. Say the word,
listen for the digraph or blend, circle the one you hear.
2. Write It (production) — the same picture, the rest of the word printed, the digraph or blend
left blank. Say the word, write the two missing letters.
Every tile is labeled "Starts with" or "Ends with," so where to listen is never a guess. No
student page carries the word "Level."
The Twelve Skills
Six digraphs (sh, ch, wh at the start of a word; ck, ng, th at the end) and six blends (bl, cr,
dr, fr, sp at the start; nd at the end), plus a Mixed Digraphs review and a Mixed Blends review
that reuse one flagship picture from each skill for discrimination practice. A picture is only
used where it names one thing and nothing else — a wrong picture is a wrong answer key — so a
handful of skills (bl, fr, th, nd) carry only one safe pictured word; that word repeats as fresh
"Try 1 / Try 2…" practice with new letter choices or a new blank each time, so the page is a full
page of practice, not one small picture on an empty sheet. Page 5 lists exactly how many pictured
words are in each skill.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, the tracker, the class grid, the team note and the home page are type-in
fields in any PDF reader. The circles and the letters a student writes are always pencil work.
This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and any teacher moving
a student from recognizing a digraph or blend to spelling it. The home page sends the same job to
a family; the team note hands off what changed since the last meeting.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A worksheet pack: say the picture, circle it or write it. It is NOT the cut-and-paste sort — this
store's Blends Cut and Paste and Digraphs Cut and Paste packs (3 levels each, pieces cut apart and
glued onto a word frame or a sorting mat) are a different product with a different task; nothing
here is cut or glued. It is not a reading assessment, not a speech-language evaluation tool, and
not a claim about any student's age or rate of progress. The how-it-works page has a blank line for
your district's own criterion.
