About this resource
An elf day for your classroom in one print-and-go pack: an elf job application on three levels, a "jobs of North Pole elves" page, a big smiling elf to color, cut and glue, an elf-job-or-not cut-and-sort, a "make a toy" sequence, toy counting on three levels, a postcard to Santa on three levels and a kind-elf checklist, for PreK to 2nd grade and special education classrooms.
Start with the picture schedule: six stations with a picture and a check box each, so every child can see the plan for the day. Station 1 is the elf office. Children fill in an elf job application (draw yourself as an elf, circle what you can do, finish the sentences, or write the whole application) and read about the jobs of North Pole elves. Station 2 is the workshop: one big elf in a green hat with a gold bell is cut into 9 equal squares in three columns and three rows, so every cut is a straight line. Color the black-and-white pieces or use the ready-colored set, cut them out and glue each piece on its faint twin; every glue box is exactly the size of its piece. Then color and cut 6 pennant flags (E, L, F, D, A, Y) and glue them in order to make an ELF DAY banner.
Station 3 is sort and build: 6 picture cards to cut and sort into elf job or not an elf job, then 5 cards to cut, 4 to glue in order (First, Next, Then, Last) to show how an elf makes a toy and 1 that does not belong, with lines to write about it. Station 4 is toy counting: circle the number, write the number, or add two groups and write the number sentence. Station 5 is the mail room: a postcard to Santa with a stamp, where children circle a toy and draw, finish three sentence starters with a word bank, or write freely. Station 6 is kind elves: a six-card checklist and a drawing box.
Every student page has a "My name" line and one short instruction with a picture. The clip art is bright and friendly, the writing lines are big, and there is room to draw and write on every page.

Cutting Built For Small Hands
Every cutting page has big pieces lined up edge to edge, so each cut is a straight line: 2.1 inches for the elf pieces, 2.5 by 2.2 inches for the sorting cards and 1.5 inches for the toy cards. 35 pieces to cut in all (9 black-and-white elf pieces, 9 ready-colored elf pieces, 6 banner flags of 2.5 inches, 6 sorting cards and 5 toy cards). You will need crayons, scissors and glue sticks. Card stock suits the craft pages.
Three Skill Levels
Three small shapes beside the name line mark each leveled page (circle, square or triangle), with this page's shape dark. Easier: draw and circle, or a partner who holds the glue stick. Harder: write the application yourself, add two groups, or write the postcard on lines.
Who This Is For
PreK to 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained special education classrooms, and paraprofessionals who want a December party day that is ready to print, with stations you can rotate or spread over a week.
