About this resource
Equal groups is where multiplication starts, and children need to circle them, draw them and say them as
repeated addition before a times sign means anything. This is a complete kit for equal groups, K-2: one labeled
meet page, six practice skills with two sets each, a cut-and-glue sort, a tracker, a class roll-up, a family
note and a group hunt, so nothing has to be written from scratch.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (28 pages)
- 1 Meet Equal Groups page: one set of equal groups labeled (how many groups, how many in each, how many in all),
the same dots as a different set of groups, a not-equal example, and a first try
- 10 student practice pages in 5 leveled skills, two sets each (Set A: smaller groups; Set B: bigger groups):
Circle the Groups (10 items), Draw Equal Groups (8 items), Groups Of to Adding
(8 items), Equal or Not Equal (12 pictures) and Word Problems (8 stories
with a draw-it box)
- 1 Cut and Glue Sort: 8 cards, glued into an EQUAL box or a NOT EQUAL box
- 15 equal-groups facts used across the file, each written as groups of and as repeated addition, in a
reference chart
- 2 answer keys, computed from the same data as the student pages
- 1 skill tracker (6 skills, two dates each) and 1 class roll-up (6 skills, 15 students)
- 1 family note and 1 group hunt (a different setting: home or a whole-class walk)
- 1 filled example (an invented student), 1 phrase bank (14 observable-language starters), 1 binder cover and
6 divider tabs with a spine label to cut out
- Start Here, a how-to-read-a-page page, and terms of use
The Six Skills
1. Circle the Groups: loose dots, circle groups of the size named, write how many groups.
2. Draw Equal Groups: draw the dots into empty rings, then write the repeated addition.
3. Groups Of to Adding: read a picture as groups of, then as adding.
4. Equal or Not Equal: circle one for every picture.
5. Word Problems: draw the story, then fill the groups-of frame.
6. Cut and Glue Sort: 8 cards into two boxes.
Built For The Child Holding The Page
A big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture, large rounded letters, real room to draw and write,
and dots (not words) to show which level a page is. Nothing on a student page is written for an adult.
Cutting is 8 cards edge to edge, so it takes a few straight cuts.
Every Number Is Generated, Never Typed
Every group picture, sentence, total and answer on every page, key, tracker and example is computed from the
same item data at build time, so the pages and the keys cannot drift apart. Answer positions are shuffled so
no pattern gives them away.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, tracker, class roll-up, family note and group hunt are type-in fields in any PDF
reader. What a student draws and writes is pencil work. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides or
PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms, self-contained and resource rooms, and any teacher building early
multiplication foundations before the times symbol is introduced.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An equal-groups worksheet set with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed test, a screener, a
clinical tool, or a claim about any student's age or rate of progress. There is no IEP goal language or
eligibility wording anywhere in the file.
