About this resource
Fact families for multiplication and division: three numbers in a triangle make four facts, two to multiply and two to divide. Put the big number on top and the two small numbers on the bottom, then read the family both ways. This file teaches it and practices it with facts within 10 x 10, at three levels. Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction, and big answer boxes. Untimed: no clock, no score on the page.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (29 pages: 13 student pages, 16 for you)
- 34 different fact families (every pair of different factors from 2 to 10, products from 6 to 90) on the practice pages, plus 2 more worked out for you on Look; all computed in code
- Look: two families worked in the triangle with all four facts printed (1 page)
- Fill the Triangle: read a fact, write its three numbers in the triangle; Set A multiply facts, Set B mixes in divide facts (10 triangles, 2 pages)
- Missing Number: one number in the triangle is missing; Set A writes it in a multiply sentence, Set B finds it and then writes a divide fact (10 triangles, 2 pages)
- Write the 4 Facts: a full triangle and four empty facts, two multiply and two divide; Set A prints one fact to start (8 triangles, 32 facts, 2 pages)
- Odd One Out: four lettered facts, three from one family and one that is not; write the letter (10 items, 2 pages)
- Cut and Glue: six pieces a page in a 3 by 2 block, three straight cuts; facts to 2 triangles (Set A), facts to 3 triangles (Set B), numbers into 2 triangles (Set C) (18 pieces, 3 pages)
- My Family: pick two numbers and build your own triangle and four facts, with room to work (2 families, 1 page)
- 3 answer keys, a tracker, a class grid, a team note, a home page with blank triangles for the family to fill in, a filled example (an invented student), a phrase and strategy bank (17 starters), a binder cover and 6 divider tabs with a spine label
- Start Here, a how-it-works page and a "What's next" back page
Built For The Child, Not The Office
Every student page has a big "My name" line, one short instruction with a picture (a pencil, an eye or scissors), a round-cornered triangle and boxes at least half an inch tall, and plenty of room. My Family leaves space for the child to pick any two numbers. Everything for you (directions, answer keys, scoring) is on separate teacher pages. No clip art: the only pictures are the triangles and boxes themselves.
Three Levels, Marked By Dots
One dot: starting (small numbers, a printed fact, or a question mark in the triangle). Two dots: building (bigger numbers, divide facts, find the odd one). Three dots: ready for more (odd facts that share a number with the family, three triangles to sort, make your own). The dots are the only level code, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Every Item Is Computed
Every triangle, every fact, every wrong choice on Odd One Out, every piece on the cut strips and every row of the three answer keys is read from the same two factors that draw the page. There is no second, hand-typed key. Where an answer sits (the missing vertex, the printed fact, the letter of the odd one, the piece under a mat) is placed by a seeded shuffle that rejects any order a child could guess. No family is used twice inside a page type, and no product is used twice on a page.
Type In, Or Print
The name and date lines, every answer box, the tracker, class grid, team note and home page are type-in fields in any PDF reader; the printed numbers and cut pieces are always printed. Every page also prints clean in black and white. This is a fillable PDF; it is not a Google Slides, Google Docs or PowerPoint file.
Who This Is For
Third grade teachers, special education and resource room teachers, interventionists, and families who want the same triangle at home, with the tracking and home pages already made.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
An untimed practice set for multiply and divide fact families, with the record-keeping around it. It is not a timed fluency probe or a goal page, not a full math curriculum, and not a claim about any student's grade level or rate of progress. Every fact is within 10 x 10; there are no zeros or ones and no number times itself (that family has only two facts). It has no addition or subtraction fact families; those are a separate product.
