About this resource
A five senses unit a kindergarten or self-contained class can run for a week with scissors, glue sticks and crayons. Each sense gets its own sort mat, a page in the flip book, a line on the draw-and-write page and a piece of the face craft. Every student page has a big My name line and one short instruction with a picture, so a paraprofessional can run the table from the page itself.
EVERYTHING INSIDE (20 pages)
- 1 Start Here page: what is inside, a five-day plan (one activity a day), the three levels, and prep
- 5 sort mats, one for each sense (I can see, hear, smell, taste, touch), each with 6 glue boxes and a sentence to finish
- 30 picture cards with their words on 2 pages, 6 cards for every sense, printed in mixed order (not mat order), cut in straight lines from a grid
- 1 flip book page: five strips (I can see a, I can hear a, I can smell a, I can taste a, I can touch a), each with a glue box and handwriting lines
- 1 flip book picture page: 15 pictures, 3 choices for every sense, plus a My Five Senses cover strip to staple on top
- 1 draw-and-write page: a drawing box and two sets of handwriting lines for each sense
- 3 Which sense? pages at three levels: starting (5 pictures, the right sense is already shaded), building (6 pictures, circle the sense), ready for more (6 pictures, write the sense word from a picture word bank)
- 1 face craft page: a face with 8 glue targets, each the same size as its piece, with a faint twin inside so every piece has one place to go
- 1 craft piece page: 2 eyes, 2 ears, a nose, a mouth and 2 hands to color, cut and glue, with the finished model shown
- 1 Who Did What This Week class data page with the answer key for the cards and the flip book
- 1 family letter with a try-it-at-home activity
- 1 credits page
Three Levels, Marked With Shapes
The Which sense? task comes at three levels, marked with a circle, a square and a triangle instead of a number, so children at one table are not comparing papers.
Cutting Built For Small Hands
Every cutting page carries its pieces edge to edge in a grid, so each cut is one straight line, and every piece is at least 1.6 inches on a side. The craft's glue targets are the same size as the pieces.
What This Is, And What It Is Not
A print-and-cut PDF: print the mats and cards on card stock, everything else on paper. It is not a fillable PDF and it is not Google Slides or a PowerPoint file. The pictures are Whimsy Clips art and the fonts are KA Fonts; the file is secured so the art cannot be lifted out of it.
Who This Is For
Kindergarten, PreK and 1st-2nd grade teachers, and any special education teacher setting up a five senses week for a self-contained or resource room with sort, flip book, writing and craft stations that need no prep beyond cutting.
How To Use It
Day 1, meet the senses with the Which sense? page at each child's level. Day 2, sort the 30 cards onto the mats. Day 3, build the flip book. Day 4, draw and write. Day 5, make the face.
